The book was entertaining enough to pass the time, but the subplots weren't really woven together in any way other than coincidence. The conflict between the main character and the real antagonist was sort of simplistic and superficial. Interesting moral dilemmas were just not engaged with. It's probably realistic, that reaction, but not very satisfying.

Despite the subtitle, this is almost entirely focused on Kanban in general or manufacturing Kanban. It's not valueless--a lot of the principles apply. But if you're somewhat familiar with Kanban and looking for insight on implementing it in a software project, look elsewhere.

It’s unusual that a book this deep in a series still has new aspects of the main character to explore. We get to continue to know Murderbot better while it continues its own self-discovery. It would be easy to fall into cliche with this character, but Ms. Wells doesn’t. Kevin R. Free does an outstanding job with narration. For me, a narrator is great when I forget I’m listening and not reading, but this may be the only book I’ve had where I prefer the audio. The narrator just brings so much to SecUnit’s and ART’s voices.

Whether it was the narrator's intonation or repetitive structures in the text, there was some annoying repetitivity, especially in the use of the protagonist's name. Over time, it got better or I stopped noticing, but I almost put it down in the first hour.

Good story, uneven narration

The story was compelling. The male narrator was good. The female narrator was not. She had a distracting sort of rising intonation that sounded a little like she was listing something rather than reading. She used it in nearly every paragraph in the first or second sentence. The repetition of the unnatural tone pulled me out of the story. It seemed to get better later in the book--or maybe I just got used to it.

Wells continues John Cleaver's growth as a character. Another interesting, nuanced demon. Another believable relationship, and he does a better job of completely weaving it into the rest of the story than with Brooke in book 2. Really satisfying ending.

Kirby Heyborne, as in the last book, was just stellar. Easy to listen to, capable of conveying complex emotion and handling many voices without sounding false and taking you out of the narrative.

Strong second step in John Cleaver's story his deepening battle with his serial killer inclinations was handled very well. Once again the demon was nuanced and real. The relationship between John and Brooke was handled very well. It made me really love her and fear for her.

The narrator was top notch. He was totally fitting as John's voice, and he was able to give each of the wide range of characters their own feel. I couldn't have been happier.

The story was really great. I wasn't expecting this much originality from a serial killer story. Loved the nuanced take on both the main character and the antagonist.

The narrator was tough to get used to. Every line except for dialogue by other characters was in this over-the-top voice that reminded me of 40s or 50s newsreels. Really distracting and out of step with the protagonist. Too often, the stress was in the wrong part of the sentence, emphasizing the wrong bit--not so much as to lose meaning but to make it too easy for the reader to miss some subtlety in the intent of the author.
