Historia
We had 20 short years of peace. Twenty years to put worlds back together. Twenty years for Captain Vin Husher to convince us the aliens would return. We didn’t listen. Warmonger, we called him. Washed up, we called him. But now, the enemy has returned, with high-tech weaponry well beyond anything of which humanity has dreamed. If Husher and his ragtag crew can’t manage to stop them, they will smash us.

Too much political soapboxing
Revisado: 01-26-22
An author injecting their politics into their story and worldbuilding is one thing, and to be expected. I can tolerate even profound disagreements when it's woven into a good, believable story.
Chapters after chapters of political rants against the most ludicrous caricatural strawmans, on the other hand, is a bit much. The plot doesn't seem to be serving any purpose except to set up farfetched and idiotic scenarios for the author's political pontificating. It completely overshadowed whatever story there might have been.
I did try to push through in the vain hopes that the author won't keep flogging that poor dead horse, but he was still very much at it when I called it quits about 4 hours in. Perhaps the book ultimately improved afterwards, but to me it was not worth the time investment by the point.
The voice actor did a good job, but he can only work with the material he was given.

Historia
Enter a school of magic unlike any you have ever encountered. There are no teachers, no holidays, friendships are purely strategic and the odds of survival are never equal. Once you’re inside, there are only two ways out: you graduate or you die. El Higgins is uniquely prepared for the school’s many dangers. She may be without allies, but she possesses a dark power strong enough to level mountains and wipe out untold millions - never mind easily destroy the countless monsters that prowl the school. Except, she might accidentally kill all the other students, too.

Excellent
Revisado: 10-26-20
A Deadly Education is a tense, fiercely unique narrative with characters you care about rapidly in a very grim setting. I look forward to everything Naomi has in store in this universe for the audience.
The narrator did a great job too, very emotive performance.
If I were forced to give a critique it would be that I personally prefer more descriptions of the surroundings than was provided, but I'm fairly certain that was deliberate to make the reader feel more closed in as it is not a static trait in her other books.

Historia
Gifted with meta-human powers, Tori Rivas kept away from the limelight, preferring to work as a thief in the shadows. But when she's captured trying to rob a vault that belongs to a secret guild of villains, she's offered a hard choice: prove she has what it takes to join them or be eliminated. Apprenticed to one of the world's most powerful (and supposedly dead) villains, she is thrust into a strange world where the lines that divide superheroes and criminals are more complex than they seem.

Great
Revisado: 08-02-20
This is a fun book that has a feeling of safety and homecoming in the center and spreads itself into adventure and peril, without taking itself too seriously. The characters are interesting, dynamic and not copy pasted from other things.

Terrible
Revisado: 08-02-20
Tedious, uninspired, derivative and the overuse of complete nonsense metaphors makes this read like a middle school creative writing project from a highly disturbed individual.
This book was so bad that I feel personally affronted and lied to by every person and review I read prior to acquisition.
