Historia
David L. Robbins, author of the war classic War of the Rats, delivers another heart-stopping, deeply researched military adventure, this time right off today’s front pages. The US military’s most highly trained and elite unit is the US Air Force pararescuers, known as PJs. All battle-hardened vets, their motto is "That Others May Live". Their singular mission is CSAR: Combat Search and Rescue. But, off the Horn of Africa, one PJ unit is tasked with a desperate assignment that goes against its oath: Take down a cargo ship full of secrets that’s been captured by Somali pirates.

Great idea - but weirdly frustrating
Revisado: 12-09-22
I liked the beginning, and middle , but could not finish as Spec Ops would not , could not make the decisions the team did in the closing chapters.
Great performance by the narrator, but I got so frustrated at the naïveté of the PJ team especially LB , that I could not finish the book . I’ll be returning this for a credit .

In the last years of the ninth century, King Alfred of Wessex is in failing health, and his heir is an untested youth. The Danes, who have failed so many times to conquer Wessex, smell opportunity.... First comes Harald Bloodhair, a savage warrior leading a Viking horde, who is encouraged to cruelty by his woman, Skade. But Alfred still has the services of Uhtred, his unwilling warlord, who leads Harald into a trap and, at Farnham in Surrey, inflicts one of the greatest defeats the Vikings were ever to suffer.

What has happened to the narration ?!
Revisado: 02-27-21
I have screeched to a shuddering halt with this series .. brought to a stop by the shield wall that is the flat monotone of Matt Bates narration and voice acting.
What a shame - very disappointed as I was so enjoying the series with the passion of Jonathan Keebles storytelling of the first four books.

Historia
American scientist Matt Miller is torn from his own century and dropped into Colonial America with nothing except a backpack. His phone, his money, and his identity are all useless and he quickly finds that he is foreign and alone in his own country. Matt must meet the challenge to survive in a newly forming society where he seemingly has no relevant skills and no one he can count on. He suspects that his 21st century knowledge of science and technology could make him a king in the New World, but he quickly finds that 18th-century America is a dynamic place where nothing is guaranteed.

An engaging story for christian romantics
Revisado: 09-23-20
I was hooked by the premise of this book, and enjoyed the performance and story line enough to finish it.
However, I feel as a mature (agnostic) adult male, I was not the target audience for it. The story leans quite heavily on christian moralisation and often felt like a romance "bodice ripper' .. except there was no ripping of bodices ( see christian moralisation, above). The characters' spoken language (from both time zones) and conveyed emotional maturity seemed more suited to teenagers. In fact, it was almost like a high school romance, complete with newcomer to campus, school bully, and will they / won't they plot devices.
I also resented the oft-repeated christian proselytizing , though recognise that in 1762 the church was probably central to polite social intercourse and order in the colonies.

A rogue Russian nuke sails toward the harbors of Los Angeles in the hull of a ramshackle sailboat. Without destroying a single building, the bomb shatters the latticework of the American dream, toppling one piece of the economy after another. Dont spend the apocalypse with these folks
Revisado: 03-07-20
I’m a fan of post apocalypse fiction , and was looking forward to this highly rated series.
Well, if you are fond of alpha male Mormon religion gun touting selfish folk ( who, if not Mormon are ex special forces ) proving just how much better they are vs everyone else ... this is the series for you.
Couldn’t finish it , I really did not care who made it through , I was just sooo irritated with the lead characters, their arrogance , and the poor narration just rubbed salt into the wound .

Great start - and then it gets lost in space
Revisado: 04-12-18
I enjoyed the start of this book, and RC Bray is as usual, outstanding, and then .... random story lines appear, new characters randomly pop up and just as quickly never get heard of again, timelines flip back and forth and, well , I just found it too much hard going.
Lots of whizz-bang action, and some amusing interplay of characters, but at some point, possibly two thirds of the way through, I found myself metaphorically lost at a busy intersection seeking both to recognize the correct route and the inspiration to take it.
Not for me.

Historia
Jazz Bashara is a criminal. Well, sort of. Life on Artemis, the first and only city on the moon, is tough if you're not a rich tourist or an eccentric billionaire. So smuggling in the occasional harmless bit of contraband barely counts, right? Not when you've got debts to pay and your job as a porter barely covers the rent. Everything changes when Jazz sees the chance to commit the perfect crime, with a reward too lucrative to turn down.

Escapes the heavy gravity of expectation !
Revisado: 12-02-17
A satisfactory follow up to the Martian - not in the same league, but does not disappoint. I had a mixture of dread and excitement for this novel - how could anything compare to The Martian? Andy Weir delivers, with a little more agility and perhaps a lighter touch, and avoids the gravity well of expectation. It kind of felt like a story aimed at teenagers, but entertaining enough for the Adult listener.
Great narration by Rosario Dawson - though the Cockney accent for Billy the Bar keeper made me wince - otherwise flawless .

Entertaining yarn marred by narration
Revisado: 10-16-17
I had high hopes for this book, I really did - I am a fan of Steven Konkoly and the post apocalyptic thriller genre, so perhaps I was setting myself up for a fall.
Ok I admit that I still get slightly baffled by weapon / gun fetishism , but I now take the "Evil Big Government" view in my stride. ( They may have means and opportunity but what the hell is the motive?)
I couldn't however get past the Narration - some characters in parts sounded to my ears like out takes from a Yogi bear cartoon, and I just could not immerse myself in the story.
That said, the plot is entertaining enough ( not a patch on Steven Konkolys previous books though, perhaps getting just a little too formulaic) however I do not think I will be returning to hear of the survivors progress .

Historia
Ten years after the collapse, Huxley has built a good life again. He has a loving wife, a farm with fields of golden barley, and a daughter with a strange and wonderful gift. Then the slavers come. Working out in the fields during the attack, Huxley returns too late. His daughter has been taken, and his wife is bleeding out, her last whispered words about a man with a scorpion tattoo on his neck. Where do the slavers go? Huxley has no idea. He knows only that they head east, and so will he, setting out on foot across the desert of the Wastelands.

POST APOCALYPTIC SPAGHETTI WESTERN
Revisado: 03-18-17
What did you like best about this story?
Outstanding performance by the narrator
Which character – as performed by Christian Rummel – was your favorite?
It has to be Huxley, the central character
Any additional comments?
Outstanding narration, excellent writing - but prepare yourself for hours of gritty misery , as you are taken on a journey some 14 years after an apocalyptic " sky fire" that has reduced the USA from the 21st century to mid 1800s technology. Plenty of action, set in places like "Dry Gulch" , an army of bounty killers called the Black Hats, an economy built on slavery, and the personal journey of a wronged man set for revenge. A listener needs stamina and fortitude to accompany him on this journey, as there is a great deal of inward reflection and personal regret, and Huxley does not always make the right choices along the way. If you can leave aside the Western gunfighter theme that seems almost a parody at times, it is a book well worth listening to .. just don't expect to be lifted into a lighter mood at any point.

Revisado: 03-01-17
What did you love best about Under a Tell-Tale Sky?
I enjoyed the plot, and was drawn into caring for the characters quite early on.
Would you listen to another book narrated by Kevin Pierce?
..Mmm he is a good narrator but his voice was in my view too old, he sounds late sixties and he is narrating the voices of 18-40 yr olds. It distracted me from my enjoyment of the book.
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
No

Great start. the rest is a disappointment
Revisado: 06-23-15
What reaction did this book spark in you? Anger, sadness, disappointment?
Disappointment - after Kill Decision I was expecting a coherent imaginative seat of your pants techno thriller. Instead, after an interesting concept and a really good start, it lost me and turned into a hero vs villain sci- fi slug fest, with ever increasingly outlandish gadgets and gizmos being deployed by the bad guys.
