Historia
Newly-minted child psychologist Mina has little experience. In a field where the first people called are experts, she’s been unable to get her feet wet. Instead, she aimlessly spends her days stuck in the stifling heat wave sweeping across Britain, and anxiously contemplating her upcoming marriage to careful, precise researcher Oscar. The only reprieve from her small, close world is attending the local bereavement group to mourn her brother’s death from years ago. That is, until she meets journalist Sam Hunter at the grief group one day. And he has a proposition for her.

Bunch of Useless Inept Characters
Revisado: 04-23-25
This book had promise but it never came to fruition. Just a bunch of bumbling around during a heatwave. So ridiculous that no one called the police until the very last of the book. And the presumptions and liberties Sam and Mina took with the family's house, so odd.
Min is a simpering hand wringer who never has her priorities straight.
Sam is utterly pathetic, and the weakest man I've read about in a long time.

Very Nice Listen!
Revisado: 04-15-25
Being a free offering, I went into this not expecting much. I was happily surprised. Narration and story were both great. It is a bit predictable but doesn't detract from the overall enjoyment. This is a solid four star book, IMO. Not too shabby for a freebie.

Historia
Carla Andrews and Lorraine West are work colleagues and best friends. They socialise together, they work in the same bookmakers and they support each other as only best friends can. Then they are murdered together. When DI Tom Fowler is handed the case, he discovers a journal that Carla has left and must unpick the secrets Lorraine has kept hidden. Soon Carla’s and Lorraine’s husbands become the main suspects. It’s usually the spouse who is responsible, isn’t it? The investigation progresses until Isaac West, Lorraine’s 16-year-old son, disappears.

I Can't
Revisado: 04-15-25
Dear Fellow Readers,
I have tried ever so hard to listen to this book but I find it far too tedious to continue. It is very slow, very repetitive, and the dialogue is juvenile and off putting. This book may be great for some people but not for me. Narration is great, so I give it 2 stars overall.

Boring and Dumb
Revisado: 03-26-25
There is nothing attention grabbing about this book at all. Total waste of a credit. All characters are dull and one-dimensional, made worse by the monotonous and unemotional narration. Every narrator is awful. I can find nothing positive to say about this story, sorry.

Historia
Sloane Caraway is a liar. Harmless lies, mostly, to make her self-proclaimed sad, little life a bit more interesting. So when Sloane sees a young girl in tears at a park one afternoon, she can't help herself—she tells the girl’s (very attractive) dad she’s a nurse and helps him pull a bee stinger from the girl’s foot. With this lie, and chance encounter, Sloane becomes the nanny for the wealthy, and privileged Jay and Violet Lockhart. The perfect New York couple, with a brownstone, a daughter in private school, and summers on Block Island.

Taylor Swift Everywhere!
Revisado: 03-22-25
Jeezy creezy, I hope you like Taylor Swift because there are constant references to her in this book. It is to the point of annoyance!
Otherwise the book is fine and the narrator is also good.

Historia
When a sink hole opens up near the Australian outback town of Pintalba, it uncovers a pristine cave system. Sam joins an expedition to explore the subterranean passages as paramedic support, hoping to remain unneeded at base camp. But, when one of the cavers is injured, he must overcome paralyzing claustrophobia to dive pitch-black waters and squeeze through the bowels of the earth. Soon he will find there are fates worse than being buried alive, for in the abandoned mines and caves beneath Pintalba, there are ravenous teeth in the dark.

Silly
Revisado: 03-15-25
The story is absurd, the narration awful. If you like a narrator that ends every sentence as a question, this is book for you! Beyond irritating but I stuck it out, lord knows why. It dragged and dragged and I was glad when it ended.

Hope you like the word "macabre"!
Revisado: 03-15-25
I hope listeners like the word "macabre" because it is used ad nauseum throughout this book. Other than that frustration this is a good and informative true crime retelling.
Narrator is excellent and shows respect for the subject.

Jennifer Coolidge, is that you?
Revisado: 02-17-25
The voice for young Iris sounds so much like Jennifer Coolidge that I could not get past it! It was able to take me out of the story every single time. None of the voices were even remotely good but that one stole the clown show.
This book also just drags and drags. Very repetitive and tiresome. You will spend the most of this book thinking, "Hurry up already!"
The plot is meandering and far too long. That, coupled with plodding narration makes this book seem like it was twice as long as it was.
I do NOT recommend this book, it is annoying in every way possible.

Martha Ratliff conceded long ago that she’d likely spend her life alone. She was fine with it, happy with her solo existence, stimulated by her work as a librarian in Maine. But then she met Alan, a charming and sweet-natured salesman whose job took him on the road for half the year. When he asked her to marry him, she said yes, even though he still felt a little bit like a stranger.

Be ready to disregard all logic.
Revisado: 12-20-24
This book is okay if you go into it knowing that you need to be able to completely suspend disbelief and throw out all logic whatsoever.
The characters in this story make the most absurd and illogical conclusions it is laughable. It's 1+1=3 type stuff.
There is a continuous teasing of a background story for the Lily character that never ever gets explained, just alluded to. I guess maybe there is another book about this? Not sure because Audible does not list this book as part of a series.
The narrator for Martha is good but, the one for Lily is really bad. She sounds stilted and mean for the whole book. Maybe this was some kind of choice the narrator made for this character in particular and isn't her usual style but, it's hard to listen to.
This novel does have an interesting premise and the villain is is intriguing but I'm not sure if that's enough to recommend this book.
