Historia
In the South, you always say “yes, ma’am” and “no, ma’am.” You know everybody’s business. Football is a lifestyle, not a pastime. Food — especially dessert — is almost a religious experience. And you protect your friends as fiercely as you protect your family — even if the threat is something you cannot see.

I tried to become absorbed in this book but found it difficult. I was waiting for a climax but nothing. The struggles and sacrifices were very well written and documented. I did love the characters and the performances were very good.

Disappointing
Revisado: 11-24-20
The beginning leads you to believe that this is going to be a good story. That turns out to be the only chapter that is worth listening to. The dialogue was very elementary - Dick meets Sally. As the book progresses you can easily predict the next chapter, then the next. The story is more of a therapy session for the author. Extremely disappointing.

Historia
Inside a century-old row house in Brooklyn, renegade Sister Evelyn and her fellow nuns preside over a safe haven for the abused and abandoned. Gruff and indomitable on the surface, warm and wry underneath, little daunts Evelyn, until she receives word that Mercy House will be investigated by Bishop Hawkins, a man with whom she shares a dark history. In order to protect everything they’ve built, the nuns must conceal many of their methods, which are forbidden by the Catholic Church.

Disappointing
Revisado: 07-20-20
I am a forever recovering Catholic. While this story told of the abuse inside the Catholic church by priests, it also promoted homosexuality and abortion. I was truly disappointed in the story, waiting for a triumphant outcome for all involved.

Revisado: 06-09-20
I so enjoy books that teach you about history through fictional characters, bringing the story to life. Excellent characters that complimented each other telling the true struggles of the times and relationships. The performances were beautiful voices that captivated your attention. Now I must read about the story of the House of Mercy and its horrors. The Catholic church involved in scandal in the 1800-1900s is so very sad and disappointing. Don't pass up reading this great story!

Historia
From the New York Times best-selling authors of America's First Daughter comes the epic story of Eliza Schuyler Hamilton - a revolutionary woman who, like her new nation, struggled to define herself in the wake of war, betrayal, and tragedy. In this haunting, moving, and beautifully written book, Dray and Kamoie used thousands of letters and original sources to tell Eliza's story as it's never been told before - not just as the wronged wife at the center of a political sex scandal but also as a founding mother who shaped an American legacy in her own right.

Bravo! A must read!
Revisado: 01-28-20
This book was extremely well written, researched and narrated beautifully. As i have gotten older, my interest in our nation's history has peaked, wishing I paid more attention in school. The history lesson from this writing has me hungering for more. Stephanie Dray and Laura Kamoie put you in the room with the characters, bringing you the experience of living in the past. Compelling, entertaining, heartbreaking moments, thrills and defeats. I didn't want this book to end. Bravo!!!
