A Fun Adventure Story
Revisado: 12-17-23
This was a fun read, and the narrator did a great job giving the characters different voices. The accents were just a touch difficult to understand once in a while but I just needed to back it up 1-2 times to make sense of it.

Historia
In Minatsol, being a dweller means that you are literally no better than dirt. In fact, dirt might actually be more useful than Willa. Her life will be one of servitude to the sols, the magic-blessed beings who could one day be chosen to become gods. At least her outer village is far removed from the cities of the sols, and she won't ever be forced to present herself to them... Until one small mistake changes everything, and Willa is awarded a position to serve at Blesswood, the top sol academy in the world - a position that she definitely did not earn.

Good narration, fun story
Revisado: 06-16-22
Fun read and well narrated. I heard what I think were a few “verbal typos” that made some sentences here and there confusing. With a quick mental adjustment to the most likely correct word, in context, the moments that snapped me out of the story were brief.

Mix of Narrators
Revisado: 08-03-20
Since this is the whole collection, it makes sense that the narrator changes. I prefer the first narrator I heard, especially because the narrator in the last few books pronounces Avonlea as AvonLEA (instead of AVonlea). The narrators do an excellent job in many ways.
The later books deal with some of the tough experiences people dealt with in the time the books were set (miscarriage, WWI, etc.). I learned a lot about WWI, which was interesting and heartbreaking.
The mix of short stories from Avonlea would have been nice to hear/read more toward the middle of the collection, rather than last. The final short story of a time in “wild” Canada was hard to listen to, knowing the likelihood of mistreatment white settlers gave to the natives.

Historia
Welcome to Grace Valley, California - where blood runs thicker…ties are stronger…and love is all the more sweet. Visitors to the town often remark about the valley's peace and beauty - both of which are plentiful. Unlocked doors, front porches, pies cooling in the windows - this is country life at its finest. But visitors don't always see what lies at the heart of a community. Or just beyond.… June Hudson grew up in Grace Valley, the daughter of the town doctor. Leaving only to get her medical training, she returned home and followed in her father's footsteps.

Good Story, A few mispronunciations by narrator
Revisado: 03-19-19
A nice story about the many people in a community and how they all work together and affect each other. Author does a good job of drawing you in, and leaving you wanting to finish, so you can hear the different resolutions.
Most narrator mispronunciations tended to be medical terminology, such as Pitocin (heard as PIT-oh-sin, instead of pit-OH-sin).

Historia
Bill Bryson and his family live in a Victorian parsonage in a part of England where nothing of any great significance has happened since the Romans decamped. Yet one day, he began to consider how very little he knew about the ordinary things of life as he found it in that comfortable home. To remedy this, he formed the idea of journeying about his house from room to room to “write a history of the world without leaving home.”

There's so much history in a home
Revisado: 02-29-12
What did you like best about this story?
I loved listening to Bill Bryson talking about all the things that came together to form the modern home.
Which scene was your favorite?
The telephone. I keep remembering how someone who would not be chosen for it today redesigned the phone from the candlestick style to the one most people remember and may still have. That story keeps popping back up in my mind for some reason, and I think it's so neat.
Any additional comments?
There were moments where there was so much history that I forgot what the topic was, but there weren't many of those moments.
I greatly enjoy Bill Bryson's narration. He has mannerisms and inflections that I might not be able to catch if I were reading the book.
It's just a really good book.

Historia
For two thousand years, cadavers have been involved in science's boldest strides and weirdest undertakings. They've tested France's first guillotines, ridden the NASA Space Shuttle, been crucified in a Parisian laboratory to test the authenticity of the Shroud of Turin, and helped solve the mystery of TWA Flight 800. For every new surgical procedure, from heart transplants to gender reassignment surgery, cadavers have been there alongside surgeons, making history in their quiet way.

Fascinating
Revisado: 02-29-12
Where does Stiff rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?
A very interesting book. Not top of the pile, but definitely a good one.
What did you like best about this story?
It seems an odd subject to research, so it's quite a fascinating one.
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
No, I could pause it for other things, but I did enjoy coming back to it.
Any additional comments?
As expected, it's not the most pleasant of topics at times, but it was undoubtedly interesting, even with the potential queasy factor.

Dark, but good
Revisado: 02-29-12
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
Yes, it was indeed.
Any additional comments?
Sometimes it's a little dense when the author immerses you in certain topics, such as financials and mathematics, but I mentally trudged through those bits, going back several times to really try to get it, and they made pretty good sense eventually.
After completing the series, I mentally chewed on it for several months, and found that I wanted to listen to it again, so I did. It was even better that time.

Dark, but Great
Revisado: 02-29-12
If you could sum up The Girl Who Played with Fire in three words, what would they be?
Dark, Fascinating, Intriguing
Did the plot keep you on the edge of your seat? How?
Not quite the edge of my seat, but I definitely didn't want to have to pause it.
What about Simon Vance’s performance did you like?
He does a great job with various voices, as well as emotional inflection.
