Long winded and boring
Revisado: 05-06-25
I bought this book because of the glowing reviews of the magic, the impossible, and keeping an open mind. All things I enjoy. But, omg, this book made my head spin each time I listened. And it wasn’t from anything good. It was so longwinded, excessively detailed, and repetitive. Underneath it all it had the promise of being great, but it just never got there for me. Sooo boring! I even sped it up to see if it would ever get better, but it never did. Finally, five long hours into it, I just couldn’t listen anymore. I gave up. It’s a shame because I thought it would be just as great as The Midnight Library. It isn’t. Too bad!

As a coalition of species and planets fights to unseat the Imperium, Will, the only human on the Coalition War Council, is put forward as an unlikely poster boy for galactic harmony. His unremarkable home world and its unimportant species—humans—have come to the aid of a greater galaxy they didn't even know existed. With each battle won, breaking the shackles of the Imperium seems not only possible but inevitable… until old grievances and simmering rivalries spring up among the Coalition.

Too many battles
Revisado: 03-18-25
Not the best one of the series, in my opinion. Too many battle scenes with too, many details. It was appropriate in books one & two but over winded in book three. More character development would probably have helped. In fact, there was more relevant info in the epilogue than the entirety of the book. I did love books one & two, not this one as much. Because of this, I can’t say that I’m looking forward to any future books in the series.

The core worlds of settled space enjoy a tenuous peace, unaware and ill prepared for the threat building beyond the furthest reaches of humanity. The star kingdom of Albion stands as a shining light of justice and mercy in a harsh galaxy, and they will be the first to suffer the Daegon's fury. Book 2: The Long March: Commodore Thomas Gage and his fleet, safeguarding the last of the Albion Royal Family, are on the run.

Great military style story
Revisado: 01-28-25
I gave 5 stars across the board however, I almost gave up on the book by chapter 8. OMG, it dragged on and on from Chapters 1-8. Torturous! Got to chapter 8 and had to stop. Next day I went to the reviews of the book one more time and realized that a lot of others mentioned the slow start but then promised that it gets better around chapter 10. One person said that from chapter 10 on, they couldn’t stop listening. So I thought I would listen through chapter 10 before giving up. Well, I’m glad I did. Wow! Non stop action from 10 on. It kept me so engaged, I didn’t want to stop listening cause I just had to know what was going to happen next. Turned out to be a great storyline with awesome narration from Mark Boyett. He’s one of my top three favorite narrators. That was why I bought the books in the first place. Sooo.. be aware it’ll start very slow, but then it takes off and you won’t be disappointed.

Slower than the first two
Revisado: 12-12-24
This book was more of a background of the politics relating to the aliens and the artifacts. Not much action as the first two. I think I zoned out a few times. I could see how the story line was going to be important to the future books so I stuck with it. But it was tough going a few times. Whew! The saving grace was Scott Aeillo’s narration. He definitely is one of the best. Looking forward to the next book, though. Based on the ending of this one, it promises to be as awesome as the first two books.

Historia
Ashley Perrin is fresh out of college and starting a job as a community liaison for the Third District–the city’s only sector with more alien residents than humans. Ashley’s barely found where the paper clips are kept when she’s beset with constituent complaints–from too much noise at the Annual Lupidian Celebration Parade to a trip-and-fall chicken to a very particular type of alien hornet that threatens the very city itself. And if that’s not terrifying enough, Ashley is next up at the office karaoke night.

Revisado: 11-26-24
This was a great short story. Fast paced, funny, and engaging. The characters were on point and the narration brought them to life perfectly. I loved the premise. Only wish it could have been full length story. It was that entertaining.

Amazing!!
Revisado: 11-02-24
Wow! This has got to be one of the best stories I’ve read or listened to in a long time. It’s well written and follows along nicely. It held my interest throughout the entire book. The narrator was the best. She allowed the book to come alive. If you’re into time travel sci-fi stories, then this one is definitely for you. But if the genre doesn’t usually interest you, grab the book anyway. You won’t be disappointed.

Ugh!!
Revisado: 09-08-24
Torturous! Kept listening hoping it was going to get better, but that was a huge mistake on my part. The next to last chapter was the best. It’s where the good stuff was waiting. A few long winded chapters could’ve been eliminated on the way there. The premise had potential, but it was never realized. Absolute waste of my time!

Couldn’t finish
Revisado: 08-06-24
I tried, I really did. But I just couldn’t listen to another word. Part way thru the second book and I had to quit before I went nuts. Hardly any character development so I wasn’t invested in anyone. All you get is the narrating character’s background and that’s it. No real info on anything else. And you’d think that by the second book we would have an idea of who the enemy is, but no, we don’t know anything about them except the name they’re given. All you get is fighting between the two with no in depth descriptions where marines die. Then they do it all over again. That’s it!! Didn’t have it in me to finish.

But one evening, there’s someone else on her bench - Hunter. Tall, wry and infuriating: everything about him gets under Iris’s skin. Little does she know that he's about to upset more than just her routines...
