As a longtime fan of the spy x assassin thriller genre, I was so happy to discover a 'new to me' author. More grit and heart than Orphan X. More depth and individual shock and awe than the Gray Man. Slow burns escalate to peak action then the author takes you back down to earth ... plus a great origin story, artfully told. I recommend!

I really enjoyed the plot and love match arc of this novel. The main characters were just south of over the top with their spitfire personalities, the supporting cast was suitably devillish, and Landor's narration was pitched perfectly. She had fun with this one and you will too!

I love the Regency romance genre and have discovered great lesser known and established authors thanks to Audible. Mary Balogh usually delivers a solid novel. This time, though the plot had promise, her protagonists failed to captivate in the first few chapters and I slept through most of the book.

Coupled with narration that made the main characters - cannot remember their names, oh dear - sound bratty and bored to be there, and a '1 Chapter' download that made it possible to locate my place in the recording when I nodded off, this was a waste of a credit. But who knows? You might like it.

Really enjoyed this story. From the first chapter I fell hard for Q and Belle who are both formidable in their own right. Rice tells their story with witty, laugh out loud dialogue, rollicking equine adventures, and steamy encounters. Also enjoyed the supporting cast of characters, especially Kitt and Q's crusty Marquis father. The sisters were a bit redundant, but perhaps helped to advance the underlying theme of the story: Unconditional, enduring familial love.

The narrator was pretty good but sometimes failed to maintain the tonality of key character voices and dramatic pacing for which Rosalyn Landor has no equal. Will invest my credits in other books in the series if they are available on Audible.

Hubris and Heroines(!) ... A Great Read

I bypassed this book several times before opting to purchase it as I am a lover of spy thrillers and Mark Greaney, but the military genre not so much. And this book is definitely that ... over 80 chapters worth, with intricately detailed accounts of every aspect of military culture, mindset, war strategy and tactics, compelling characters on both sides of the conflict and taut action from beginning to end. I especially enjoyed the separate storylines of three heroines, reminding us that female protagonists can shine in the genre.

This writer sends a predictable storyline sideways with the ultimate plot twist ... As a seasoned fan of the spy and mystery genrea I got suspicious at around two-thirds in, which is a credit to the quality of the story-telling. I also really enjoyed how the writer compelled my perception of each main character to evolve ... at time by lurches, between empathy, pity and disgust.

In an odd way remindedme of 'Gone Girl' ... well worth a credit!

A Real Life Allegory of Our Time

Total

Revisado: 05-29-19

BAD BLOOD crystallises how the so-called 'seven deadly sins' have permeated all aspects of modern society, business and media culture, and our appetite for quick fame, riches and ease - even in something as small as providing blood samples for a potentially life-saving test - have abberated our sense of right from wrong. The author's ability to emote the tension and anxt felt by the many real life characters in this real life drama, and to paint a vivid image of a self-indulgent, sociopathic Holmes herself was outstanding, as was the narration. Excellent.

This collection is still good value and Dyer is a well of engaging positivity but I found that the repeated anecdotal refefences made it difficult to distinguish the discreet themes of each talk. The audio quality was also a bit muffled.

Vince Flynn has nothing on Malcolm Nance

As a devotee to the spy thriller genre and a keen spectator of US politics (I'm from the Caribbean) nothing about the US presidential race of 2015/16 nor the presidency that followed Trump'svictory surprised me, because I had read similar plot lines from the likes of Flynn, Greaney, Thor, Baldacci ... what has left me incredulous is how easily Americans' own psychosocial insularities and tendency toward distracted self-indulgence was so absolutely exploited by a hostile foreign power. Also, how unsuited the modern American psyche is suited for long wars of attrition, where patience and restraint are the most critical arsenal.

Nance, one of the truest American patriots, lays it all with methodical precision, overwhelming factual detail and prose as entertaining and compelling as any seasoned spy novelist. A must read/listen!

In this well-written, edited and creditably narrated account, Comey gives Trump wary (and weary) readers insight into his motivations and machinations contributing to the most traumatising political era the world has experienced since Nazi Germany. Most compelling, however, is Comey's commentary on the values, traits and competencies of ethical leadership and how, as perfectly illustrated in his own controversial actions as FBI Director - actions which I think I now better understand but still deeply regret, these ideals can and do exist in flawed individuals who must make tough choices in impossible circumstances. He also reminds us of the absolute peril of partisan tribalism and willingness to abandon integrity in pursuit of narrow self-interest and greed. Happy the book ends on a hopeful note. 5 Stars.
