Doug Stanhope is one of the most critically acclaimed and stridently unrepentant comedians of his generation. What will surprise some is that he owes so much of his dark and sometimes uncomfortably honest sense of humor to his mother, Bonnie.

Not funny at all. Disgusting.
Revisado: 08-22-17
This book wasn’t for you, but who do you think might enjoy it more?
Stanhope reminisces about his childhood "antics" and finds what I see as unsavoury and crude hilarious. He seems to revel in these stories while I was just completely turned off. Maybe a guy could relate better? No idea really.
What could Doug Stanhope and Johnny Depp - foreword have done to make this a more enjoyable book for you?
Nothing. It was just kinda stupid.
How did the narrator detract from the book?
Drunk and disorderly on the job?
You didn’t love this book... but did it have any redeeming qualities?
Not that I can think of.
Any additional comments?
Couldn't finish this book. Just totally tasteless drivel I
IMHO.

So disappointing
Revisado: 05-17-17
Would you try another book from Steffan Piper and/or Nick Podehl?
Maybe. Loved Greyhound, hated Fugue State.
Would you ever listen to anything by Steffan Piper again?
Maybe Greyhound
What does Nick Podehl bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?
Not sure
If you could play editor, what scene or scenes would you have cut from Fugue State?
The soldiers interactions were difficult to listen to.
Any additional comments?
I enjoyed Greyhound so much and was looking forward to being entertained by Fugue State. What a let down. Full of unlikable characters and hateful situations. Couldn't finish it no matter how hard I tried.

Bad French accent!
Revisado: 04-30-17
I've tried to listen to 2 of this authors books because I enjoy this type of story. One, Wild Montana Sky's, had an insipid weak woman as the main character that I had to stop listening to and the second, Healing Montana Sky's had a one of the worst narrations ever. Her French accent slipped between bad French, Irish and Scottish! Horrible. I may pick this book up in hard copy because I believe the story (although predictable) had potential. Thank heavens audible now does refunds!

Historia
In 1906 I was barely over 14 years old, and it was my wedding day. My older sister, Helen, came to my room, took me by the hand, and sat me down on the bed. She said, "You've always been a good girl, Maude, and done what I told you. Now you're going to be a married woman, and he will be the head of the house. When you go home tonight after your party, no matter what he wants to do to you, you have to let him do it. Do you understand?"

Such a dreary story.
Revisado: 04-19-16
What disappointed you about Maude?
She reminded me of an old plow horse. Just plodding along, just existing from day to day. No spark, no joy.
What was most disappointing about Donna Mabry’s story?
Just too dreary for words.
How did the narrator detract from the book?
Such an odd narration. As flat, lifeless and dreary as the story. Often didn't know when one sentence or paragraph ended as her monotonous tone just droned on.
What character would you cut from Maude?
Maude

A disappointed listener
Revisado: 03-20-15
This 5th book of the Sevenwaters series was a great disappointment. I'm accustomed to how this author seems to take forever to get a story started but this book took forever to get to the action then forever to draw to a conclusion. BORING!
The narrator Terry Donnelly was terrible. Her voice variations, especially for male characters and creature were grating, annoying or laughable (when they weren't meant to be funny). The intensity of her delivery made the characters sound overwrought, hysterical or whiny all the time without fitting the situation. I continually found myself thinking Ho hum...more histrionics...get over it. I'm sure a more suitable reader would have made this book enjoyable.
The only reason I hung in there with this book for more than 21 hours was because I was already 4 books into the series. Would i recommend it to a friend as a stand alone book? No. Not unless I didn't like the person much! If you are as far along in the series as I am and want to see the story through to the end, I wish you luck!

Baguettes and murder! Worth a listen.
Revisado: 07-06-14
Would you consider the audio edition of The Coroner’s Lunch to be better than the print version?
Haven't read the print version.
Did the plot keep you on the edge of your seat? How?
Not a nail biter but engaging enough to keep me interested. Getting to know the characters was the most fun.
What does Clive Chafer bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?
Some reviewers have written that they thought Clive was a terrible narrater who distracted from the story. I disagree. His reading voice rather reminded me of Robin Leach (host of the old tv series "Lifestyles of the Rich and Famous") which gave the story an amusing sense of importance. He did a spectacular job of creating recognizable and believable voices for all the characters.
If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?
Baguettes and murder.
Any additional comments?
This is not the most sophisticated listen but utterly enjoyable. The light tone and fun sense of humour just carry the listener along for the ride. Dr, Siri is a wonderful character living in an interesting time and place who is surrounded by likeable cohorts. I look forward to reading more adventures of this reluctant coroner.

Magical, funny, sexy...a delicious listen!
Revisado: 08-15-12
Would you listen to A Discovery of Witches again? Why?
This book is worth a second listen. Deborah Harkness tells a delightful tale that successfully suspended my reality. What a pleasure it is to dwell in the imagination, leave this mundane existence behind and accompany these characters on their adventure.
Who was your favorite character and why?
I quite like the main character Diana. She is funny, quirky, down to earth yet out of this world.
Which character – as performed by Jennifer Ikeda – was your favorite?
Jennifer Ikeda has mastered an amazing number of accents but my favorite character is Isabeau. Jennifers performance just seems to conjure up this petite, feisty, matriarch of a most unusual family. Mais qui!
Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?
There is a scene where Diana insists on accompanying Matthew on a hunt. As he pursues a stag, Diana's consciousness connects with that of the animal and stays with it through the chase, the struggle for survival and at last the acceptance and final, inevidable submission to the will of the stronger beast. It is really quite beautiful.
Any additional comments?
This book took me by surprise! Witches, Vampires and Demons...oh my! Not my usual fare. If you want to take a break from reality give this book a try.

Lady Chatterley's Lover, written in 1928, tells the story of a passionate love affair between an upper class woman and her husband’s gamekeeper, which was thought to be so shocking in its content and its straightforward use of explicit sexual terms, that it was not officially published until 1960.

Revisiting a well loved classic
Revisado: 06-14-12
What did you love best about Lady Chatterley's Lover?
I revisit this story once a decade. Giving away my age, this is my forth visit. What I love is the passion between Connie and Mellors which transcends the rigid class system in England at that time, and how this unexpected and forbidden love frees them both from the dreary, lonely lives that circumstance has trapped them in.
What did you like best about this story?
What I enjoy the most about this story is how Mellors earthy attitude towards sex shocks Connie yet leads her to discover, accept and ultimately revel in her own sexuality.
What about Veronika Hyks’s performance did you like?
Having read this book many times I was nervous that listening to it might not meet my expectations and ruin the story for me. I need not have worried.Veronica Hyks made this story come alive. Lady Chatterly was portrayed perfectly as a young woman in love and Ms Hyks did a wonderful job with Mellors use of vernacular. Even lesser characters took on a life of there own.
Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?
I am always moved when Lady Chatterly cries over the baby pheasants lamenting her unfulfilled life and her empty womb.
Any additional comments?
If you should choose to listen to this book, I hope you enjoy it as much as I.
