Hardcore SciFi at its Finest
Revisado: 12-27-24
I thought this was one of the best books I have listened to in a long time. It was engaging from the very beginning all the way to the end. The universe this writer weaved in one book was just astounding and thought provoking. From the celestial to the mundane it touches on so many levels.

Engaging and a Great Listen
Revisado: 07-21-24
To be honest, my initial thoughts about this book was “Oh, it’s going to be a recycled ‘Under the Dome” — I was so wrong. While not a SciFi “Thinker” or Space Opera, the story really holds its own. I really enjoyed the pace and creativity. The characters are interesting and believable, The plot is easy to follow but not boring — spiced with just enough mystery to keep you interested. Great listen. Definitely one of my faves this year.

Historia
Jimmy Martin has a sore head. He's used to smuggling illegal data in his headspace. But this is the first time it has started talking to him. The data claims to be a distinguished academic, author and civil rights activist. It also claims to be a bear. A bear named Honey. Jimmy has nothing against bioforms–he's one himself, albeit one engineered out of human stock–and works with them everyday in Hell City, building the future, staking mankind's claim to a new world: Mars.

Perfect Follow-up to “Dogs of War”
Revisado: 07-13-24
I so enjoyed this book. Like “Dogs of War”, it not only gives you a surface level story but also soul searing ideas to ponder before your existential crisis. Dangerous thoughts that I just loved.

My name is Rex. I am a good dog. Rex is also seven foot tall at the shoulder, bulletproof, bristling with heavy calibre weaponry and his voice resonates with subsonics especially designed to instil fear. With Dragon, Honey and Bees, he's part of a Multiform Assault Pack operating in the lawless anarchy of Campeche, Mexico. A genetically engineered Bioform, he's a deadly weapon in a dirty war. All he wants to be is a Good Dog. And to do that he must do exactly what Master says and Master says he's got to kill a lot of enemies.

The Depths of Questions Eternal
Revisado: 07-06-24
This was not the brain-candy read/listen I first took it be.
I lost count of how many existential topics, epiphanies and quandaries this book dredged up so subtly. It was like being filleted alive without noticing. I can’t even look at my dog right now… and that is the least of it.

Historia
Neither cosmic philosopher Lars Soren, hotshot pilot Bianca Petrescu, nor the high priestess Jessica McHugh—Lady Death herself—can say quite where in the galaxy they are. But after an experiment gone horribly wrong, one thing is clear: Asphodel Station isn’t in orbit around Jupiter any longer. Worse, the monsters that live out here—ancient eldritch beings thought only to exist in stories and nightmares—have now been alerted to Earth’s existence.

I have to admit, I didn’t have high expectations for this book, but wow, was I ever wrong. I’m absolutely exhausted from a marathon listen that only left me thirsting for more. Such a mix so exquisitely crafted.

Historia
Before the being called the Emperor revealed himself, before the rise of the aeldari, before the necrontyr traded their flesh for immortal metal, the world was born in violence. Even when they inhabited bodies of flesh, Trazyn the Infinite and Orikan the Diviner were polar opposites. Trazyn, a collector of historical oddities, presides over a gallery full of the most dangerous artefacts - and people - of the galactic past. Orikan, a chronomancer without peer, draws zodiacs that predict and manipulate the future.

What an Unexpected Gem
Revisado: 05-06-24
I had never heard of Warhammer before, but was able to pick right up on the story and glean everything I needed to know. As I’ve said, I am new to Warhammer but was able to enjoy this book on its own merits as a singular read. The author and narrator do a stellar job blending some serious SciFi, mysticism, and humor into a fun and contemplative listen.

Historia
Psychologist Dr. Ophelia Bray has dedicated her life to the study and prevention of ERS—a space-based condition most famous for a case that resulted in the brutal murders of twenty-nine people. When she's assigned to a small exploration crew, she's eager to make a difference. But as they begin to establish residency on an abandoned planet, it becomes clear that crew is hiding something. While Ophelia focuses on her new role, her crewmates are far more interested in investigating the eerie, ancient planet and unraveling the mystery behind the previous colonizer's hasty departure.

Dear God, Will It Never End…
Revisado: 04-16-24
Somebody thinks this is a thriller? Don’t get me wrong, I love this author and their previous books, but this is really tedious. I’m half way through the book now (Chapter 13 with 9hrs and 23 minutes to go) and so far the psychologist is the only one that needs a mental health intervention (and girlfriend is well past talk therapy). If I hear “ERS” (Eckhart-Reiser Syndrome) used one more time, with no homicide, I’m going to scream. Where are the murderous aliens when you need them most?

A storm. Rain-lashed city streets. A flash of lightning. A scruffy lad sees a girl leap desperately from a horse-drawn carriage in a vain attempt to escape her captors. Can the lad stand by and let her be caught again? Of course not, because he's...Dodger. Seventeen-year-old Dodger may be a street urchin, but he gleans a living from London's sewers, and he knows a jewel when he sees one. He's not about to let anything happen to the unknown girl - not even if her fate impacts the most powerful people in England.
