Historia
In his debut novel, Fennell takes the listeners on an orphaned teen's journey through the darker recesses of rural America—horrifying, yet compelling—where he tries to stay one step ahead of a ruthless killer. A tragic love story unfolding against a background that is both real and imagined, making this novel as memorable for its language as for its nonstop and blistering storyline.

A little Lewis Carroll and a little C.S. Lewis.

I really enjoyed this book. This being a first publish by a new author I thought I would give it a try. It was not what I expected. The characters were thought provoking and some very twisted. The narrator has such a nice even tone to his voice. My one critique is I wish the author would have had some kind of break when there was a character point of view switch. Especially early on I got confused as to who was speaking. Over all I look for to reading more from the author and narrator.

Historia
Sam Hill always saw the world through different eyes. Born with red pupils, he was called “Devil Boy” or Sam “Hell” by his classmates; “God’s will” is what his mother called his ocular albinism. Her words were of little comfort, but Sam persevered. Sam believed it was God who sent Ernie Cantwell, the only African American kid in his class, to be the friend he so desperately needed. And that it was God’s idea for Mickie Kennedy to storm into Our Lady of Mercy like a tornado, uprooting every rule Sam had been taught about boys and girls. Forty years later, Sam, a small-town eye doctor, is no longer certain anything was by design.

This book makes you appreciate being a misfit!
Revisado: 03-26-19
Mr. Dugoni brought the realities of life into such vivid focus that I felt as if these were the misfits that I grew up with, so like my best friends and I. I liked that the characters were never allowed wallow in self pity at least not for long, and forged on with their lives such as they were. I will be reading more of his books! Thank you Mr. Dugoni.
