Engaging but too much graphic violence
Revisado: 09-29-23
Overall enjoyable book but way too much graphic detailed violence, unnecessary in the book even though it may be real. Informative discussing of hedge funds and politics as it relates to today.

Historia
A movie director is charged with murdering an actress during sex, and then staging her death to make it look like a suicide. One unsettling revelation after another leaves a retired FBI agent and an L.A. detective thinking they've unmasked a most frightening killer with almost inconceivable calculation.

Poor narration
Revisado: 07-28-20
Good Connelly book, as usual, but the narrator was poor, especially in terms of Bosch’s narration.

Historia
Corey Douglas and his K-9 partner, Simon Garfunkel, have recently retired from the police force. Their first job as private investigators comes to them from Judge Henry Henderson, who's known as a very tough but fair judge, and they've all come up against him in court at one time or another. Though it's hard to believe, Judge Henderson is being blackmailed and extorted.

Below Rosenfelt standard
Revisado: 05-05-20
Story is somewhat borderline and Corey is much weaker character than Andy Carpenter. At times, it was confusing to know which character was speaking by the narrator. The book would have been strengthened significantly by Grover Gardner as the narrator. Overall, the book wasn’t bad but disappointing.

I gave up
Revisado: 12-23-19
After couple hours of listening, I gave up and stopped listening. The plot is full of confusing flashback and the entire storyline is like a plot of B type movie.

Historia
Something sinister is going on in Baronville. The rust belt town has seen four bizarre murders in the space of two weeks. Cryptic clues left at the scenes - obscure Bible verses, odd symbols - have the police stumped. Amos Decker and his FBI colleague Alex Jamison are in Baronville visiting Alex's sister and her family. It's a bleak place: a former mill and mining town with a crumbling economy and rampant opioid addiction. Decker has been there only a few hours when he stumbles on a horrific double murder scene.

overdone

The narrator was overly dramatic, even at times when the story didn't call for it. The twists, especially towards the end, are overdone and hard to swallow. Overly ambitious story and narration.

Historia
Defense lawyer Andy Carpenter usually tries to avoid taking on new cases at all costs. But this time, he's happy - eager, even - to take the case that's just come his way. Andy's long-time friend Martha "Pups" Boyer takes in stray puppies that the local dog rescue center can't handle, raises them until they're old enough to adopt, and then finds good homes for them. Not everyone admires the work Pups does as much as Andy does, however.

I've listened to many books by this author and have enjoyed them very much. The narrator here and for many of his books is very good. The story is interesting but the humor takes it to a higher kevel.
