How many times can we say “Old Man”

Overall, a solid second book in a trilogy. I wasn’t crazy how the author decided to start calling Tobias Hawthorn “Old Man” at every conceivable opportunity. Although that’s a very small thing, it really grated on my nerves to hear it over and over and over again, which greatly reduced my overall opinion of the novel.

incredible narrator, great story

Suzy Jackson is phenomenal. Each character had a distinct voice that made the story easy to follow. As always, Brandon Sanderson's writing is exquisite. I am immediately downloading book 2 to continue this story!

A Charming Novel

I laughed out loud and openly wept multiple times while reading this book. The narrator was excellent, the story was full of surprises, and I'm so glad I read it.

I loved hearing the music as part of the story. I loved that music was magic. This book was well done, and the narrator was exquisite.

I didn't realize that this was part of a series when I purchased it, and it wasn't until much later that I noticed this was book two. However, I don't feel like I missed too much by not reading the first book. There were some interesting characters in this book and an interesting plot, but there were just too many gory details for my liking. I would often come away from a listening feeling slightly queasy. It wasn't my favorite book, but I'm sure there are others who would really enjoy it. However, I was not inclined to go looking for the rest of the series.

Loved, Loved, Loved It!!

This story was remarkable! I loved that there was a full cast of narrators, so each character had his or her own unique voice. Anne Frank's story is well known, so it was interesting to hear the scenario from someone else's perspective. Of course, considering the setting, there are depressing moments in the story, but there are also lighthearted scenes to be enjoyed. I would recommend listening to this book. You won't regret it!

Not Quite What I Expected

I did enjoy the story overall and the journey that Lexi takes is an interesting one. There was a lot more swearing than I would have preferred, so that was a little hard to listen to, but other than that it was an fun story to listen to.

What did you love best about Ranger's Apprentice, Book 9: Halt's Peril?

I've always loved the Ranger's Apprentice series, and this book was no exception. I laughed out loud, and shed some tears. It was a very enjoyable experience.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

I did want to listen to it all at once, so it was hard for me to turn it off when I had to go to work.

A slow burn

I read this years ago as a young twenty-something, and didn't love it. Now as a mother and someone who has lived just a bit more, I appreciate the story more. It's definitely a slow burn, no fast-paced suspense, but it is enjoyable. I felt like I got a good look at day to day life for a maid in the early 1900s.
