Color cast and creative worlds

I really enjoyed the tremendously colorful cast of characters, breathed flawlessly to life by the talented Joe Jameson. (Will put him on my "to be listened to" list.) I had to double-check that this wasn't an ensemble cast and that Jameson was in fact doing all the voices. Incredible.

The story was captivating, and I was quickly pulled in. Looking forward to the continuing saga.

Terrific story, needs a little focus

I enjoyed Dr. Xivray and found it to have a lot of fun qualities to it. My one minor issue was that there were times when the author seemed unclear on exactly what *type* of story they wanted to tell: there was some vacillating between noir, snarky comedy, and moving exploration of serious topics revolving around identity and technology.

Cara Firestone's narration navigated the somewhat ill-defined path expertly, She has a real talent for bringing a diverse array of characters to life.

Despite some minor faults, I recommend the audiobook. It has many fun turns and original elements.

More than a time-travel story

The narrator does a great job helping us ride alongside the main character who is desperate to find his son in a setting where both are lost in time. You can really feel this father's relentless love and experience the sacrifices he makes and the obstacles he must overcome. Highly recommend - especially to fans of time-travel stories.

Taboo twist

There's a pretty extensive warning up front about the nature of the relationship in the book. Surprisingly, the book is not simply a romp through the risque - though there's plenty of steam. The story really explores the relationship and the complications that arise from an aunt and nephew having fallen in love. The narrator does a great job expressing the characters and helping us feel their joys and challenges.

Solid introduction to the world of Keto

The author wrote a very accessible book for those interested in learning the basics of the ketogenic diet. It's a great introduction as it touches on many facets of the diet and its reported benefits. Suitable for the beginner and the curious; other listeners may want a more in-depth treatment.
The narrator does a terrific job of being clear and easy to follow.

Delightfully creepy

Sometimes an author has a rather mundane story but manages to do the story-telling in a marvelous way. In this book, not only is the story-telling first-rate in a way that truly heightens the imagination and experience, but the story itself is incredible: original, mysterious and creepy-as-hell. It left me guessing up until the end about what was actually happening.

The narrator did an incredible job of capturing the darkness and suspense of the story. His character work was subtle yet effective, which was the perfect blend to hit for this kind of book.

There's another offering from this author/narrator combo, and I can't wait to get started on it.

If Mel Brooks wrote horror

Such a fun listen. Joe Hempel did a terrific job of keeping the listening experience infused with energy, charm and wit. He hit the perfect tone and pace to match the book's Mel-Brooks-style of comedy, callbacks and self deprecation. Tons of pop-culture references by the author added to the fun.

This book made me angry...

...when they reached the last chapter, and I realized I was going to have to go through the painful process of waiting for Book 2. I was literally like, "WHAT?!"

All the narrators were mesmerizing, and coupling their amazing performances with a gripping and epic tale was terrific. One of the few books where I feel like I'm going to miss the characters.

Can't recommend highly enough. Really great storytelling.
