Beautifully written, I feel both heartbroken and uplifted

I’ve always been a fan of Sophie Kinsella’s lighthearted, witty style, but What Does It Feel Like? hit me in a completely unexpected way. As I read, I could feel the weight of each word, every moment of vulnerability. The moment I learned what inspired the story, I was shocked, but that only deepened the impact of the novella.

Loved the narration

Although I like Will Patton’s narration, I used to cringe when I heard his depiction of Holly in previous novels. Justine Lupe’s depiction of Holly was spot on. As for the novel itself, as always, perfection by Stephen King.

The narration is excruciating

I wanted to return this title less than an hour through. The narration is so slow, and the voice of Hanna particularly grated on my nerves. However, that all changed when I started to listen at 1.5x speed. Miraculously things improved and I got to stick around and finish the book. Even at 1.5x the narration felt normal, no one would have guessed that it’s faster than normal speech, that’s how slow the narration is!
So before giving up, try speeding it up, you might be pleasantly surprised.

I enjoyed this book. The narrator did a good job but could have been better; each sentence ends with a downward slant that makes it sound softer than the situation necessitates. However, I do recommend.

Full of impossibly frustrating twists and turns, but also funny and witty with a narration that made it come to life. I could not stop listening and finished it in record time. Highly recommended.

Never wanted it to end
