Historia
Birdie Binkowitz is just a little bitter. As a young actress, she was the toast of Hollywood, definitely destined for greatness. Then the dragons had to rise up from their thousand-year slumber, take over Earth and ruin everything. Twenty years later, Birdie is living her worst life in her hometown of Tuscaloosa, Alabama, working at her father's Seed and Feed (and Bagels). Then, a mysterious dragon appears in front of the store seeking her help. He’s got a bone to pick with his fellow dragons–and he wants to hit them where it hurts.

Historia
For a thousand years, Doro has cultivated a small African village, carefully breeding its people in search of seemingly unattainable perfection. He survives through the centuries by stealing the bodies of others, a technique he has so thoroughly mastered that nothing on Earth can kill him. But when a gang of New World slavers destroys his village, ruining his grand experiment, Doro is forced to go west and begin anew. He meets Anyanwu, a centuries-old woman whose means of immortality are as kind as his are cruel. Now they begin a struggle that will last centuries.

Incredible story, moving from the African continent to America in the company of those who are different, who are more by some reckoning and less by others reckoning. A thought provoking, unusual tale of a relationship that is controlling yet nurturing.

Historia
Morag MacIntyre is a Scottish lass from the remote islands that make up the northernmost reaches of the UK. She’s also a third-generation pilot, the heir apparent to an island plane service she runs with her grandfather. The islands—over 500 dots of windswept land that reach almost to Norway—rely on their one hardworking prop plane to deliver mail, packages, tourists, medicine, and the occasional sheep. As the keeper of this vital lifeline, Morag is used to landing on pale golden beaches and tiny grass airstrips, whether during great storms or on bright endless summer nights.

Not her absolute best but
Revisado: 07-20-23
This is a lovely story, very lyrical, with big lots of descriptions of the gorgeous Scottish islands. If that isn’t your thing, you will be bored. Also, there is less of the quirky supporting characters than in most of her other work, with is a bit sad but still a delightful story

Historia
Slough House is a dumping ground for British intelligence agents who've screwed up cases in any number of ways - by leaving a secret file on a train or blowing a surveillance. River Cartwright, one such "slow horse", is bitter about his failure and about his tedious assignment transcribing cell phone conversations. When a young man is abducted and his kidnappers threaten to broadcast his beheading live on the Internet, River sees an opportunity to redeem himself.

Historia
Marra never wanted to be a hero. As the shy, convent-raised, third-born daughter, she escaped the traditional fate of princesses, to be married away for the sake of an uncaring throne. But her sister wasn’t so fortunate—and after years of silence, Marra is done watching her suffer at the hands of a powerful and abusive prince. Seeking help for her rescue mission, Marra is offered the tools she needs, but only if she can complete three seemingly impossible tasks:

Wonderful, inventive, inspiring , this is a story for the ages. A heroine who is almost a nun almost a hero but in fact more than a hero because she creates a team of mismatched but perfectly matched partners to save her sister, a sister who says she hates her. The sheer inventiveness of the plot, the world created by the author is alone worth the price and the narration is top notch.

Historia
From the cassoulet that won a war to the crêpe that doomed Napoleon, from the rebellions sparked by bread and salt to the new cuisines forged by empire, the history of France is intimately entwined with its gastronomic pursuits. A witty exploration of the facts and legends surrounding some of the most popular French foods and wines by a French cheesemonger and an American academic, A Bite-Sized History of France tells the compelling and often surprising story of France from the Roman era to modern times.

Offensive political rant
Revisado: 05-01-22
This sounded intriguing and admittedly I refreshed my recollection of French history and learned a few things. But the book suffers greatly because the authors continue to rant at every chance about the right wing politics in France. Their intolerance and moral posturing was offensive and unnecessary. This is a book about history folks, not a forum for your current politics.

Wonderful narration makes this a delight to listen to. The plot is simple—young army vet needs a job, gets a gig as a butler to an old guy who is supposed to be senile and learns that there is more to him than meets the eye. Not tons of excitement and plot development but solid imaginative work building and great narration

Lovely story of a meandering holiday in chinon with darker undertones. At first there doesn’t seem much of a plot, just a total group of strangers in the hotel but eventually connections begin to emerge.
