Historia
Amid the dizzying rides, tantalizing games of chance, and fanciful attractions of a state fair, two teenage sweethearts on the cusp of life and love's pleasures find their way to a shadowy carnival tent brimming with curiosities. There, from the bizarre and enthralling Gypsy Mummy, a mechanized merchant of dreams and prognosticator of tomorrows, the young couple learns what fate promises for them. But fate, for Odd Thomas and Stormy Llewellyn, is something altogether different: full of dark corners, sharp edges, and things no seer or soothsayer could ever anticipate.

A very ODD prequel

Koontz gives us this bite size taste of one of literatures weirdest heroes in this audiobook exclusive. It’s straight to the action but we get plenty of quiet time with Odd, Stormy, and even Elvis. Great for new fans of his work or constant readers who wanna flesh out Koontz universe.

Historia
Roland Deschain and his ka-tet are bearing southeast through the forests of Mid-World, the almost timeless landscape that seems to stretch from the wreckage of civility that defined Roland's youth to the crimson chaos that seems the future's only promise. Followers of Stephen King's epic series know Roland well, or as well as this enigmatic hero can be known. They also know the companions who have been drawn to his quest for the Dark Tower: Eddie Dean and his wife, Susannah; Jake Chambers; and Oy.

A story with the body of a fantasy and the blood of a western
Revisado: 06-29-24
Another great Dark Tower entry. I cannot express how much I think readers should try Salems Lot first, since it’s story and this one are so intertwined that it could be a spiritual sequel to said book. The story does suffer in ,my opinion, like Salems Lot by having too many characters to keep track of. Essentially both have a whole town of characters with motivations and relationships. This does make it feel more real and like these are folks you’d meet any day of the week, but it confused me personally in both stories.
Sometimes it feels like King is trying to shake you off his trail and surprise you with what the Ka-tet encounters. After this many books in the series, you think “no way can this become more convoluted” and yet it does. I can see how readers then and now wouldn’t like the direction the series goes in as we approach the pivotal Dark Tower. King, always having the occasional wink at the fans of his work by stitching in traces of his other worlds, goes full meta with this one and it works (for me haha) . I highly recommend this entry and if you’re already this far, you owe it to yourself and the gunslingers to finish the journey.
