This was a fun listen with a good full cast of voice actors. modern story with a lot of humor. Some of the jokes kind of verged on being cornball and not great, but overall the character and dialogue was well written and fun. It's pretty spicy, so beware of eavesdroppers.

Not bad. Enjoyable but drags a bit.

It takes place primarily during a Christmas vacation in a mountain cabin with extended family. It was alright. I liked: the development of the (more than one-dimensional) personalities of the extended family of the female lead; the mountain setting; the decent dialogue; the full cast of readers in the audiobook recording. I didn't like: the kind of repetitive drag of the "plight" of the main romantic characters; the sort of unbelievable way that the characters came together in the story arc. I chose this as a light, holiday-themed romantic option, but I didn't love it. Not a waste of time if it's what You're looking for! Note: spicy romantic scenes.

Horrifying Mystery with Characters You Care About

I enjoyed it and looked forward to seeing what happened next every day when I found a few minutes to "read" on. This one was a little more horrifying than the last couple of his that I've read, which were Fairy Tale and The Institute. If you want a little mystery, shock, and horror in your life this October, give it a try. Good characters and a narrator that doesn't get in the way.

Modern, quick-witted, sweet, relatable easy read

I enjoyed this easy read for book club. I liked the modern bantery dialogue/emails, the peek into what SNL writers' lives are like (this is set in intentional fictional SNL world based on the real one), and reading something (partially) set during the scariest part of the pandemic when we were all trying to figure out life. It's not particularly steamy but it is sweet in a way that I found palatable.😊 I found the narrator relatable in her simultaneous confidence in and doubt of herself. Note: This is for readers who don't mind obscene humor and don't mind reading characters who have progressive politics.

Entertaining and with some memorable one-liner philosophies and anecdotes. McConaughey's own narration performance makes it more interesting than it probably would have been on the printed page, at least for me.

Good but Very Even

This is not a bad book. The description, dialogue, and characters were enjoyable. The setting was interesting. It has a plot that advances, but my overall feeling was that the highs and lows were not very high and low. It's kind of an even book.

Fun with a good cast of readers and characters

This was an enjoyable listen, especially with the full cast of voice actors, including Dolly Parton herself. the dialogue was well written and I cared about the characters, and those two factors go a long way for me. don't choose this one if you're looking for suspense or a thriller, but a good bunch of characters on their journey.

Beautiful setting and lovely secondary characters

I found Mac's character a lot more relatable than Cleo's. It took me longer to care about her as a character. I liked the self-discovery and self-love that was a big part of the story. I loved the setting and the secondary characters. There were a couple of steamy moments but not a super sexy book overall.

A little dark, a little sweet

Equal parts dark and sweet. Was a quick listen-- story never lagged and the narrator did well with appropriate non-distracting voice acting. There were twists that kept my attention without being totally outlandish. Trigger warnings for violence and sexual assault.

Well-written, glamorous romp w/ meaningful themes

Without giving too much away, it's a fun trip from the 50s to the present through the lens of a fictional hollywood icon and a modern journalist. Lots to consider about human nature, self-sacrifice, love, and longevity.
