this author continues to be one of my new favorites. This book one again puts Captain Roberts in the thick of it while facing increasing political tensions. The series remains less political than the Hand of Mars series and that's good... let's this one be a fun read.

Glynn Stewart is one of the best military SciFi writers out there. His plots are innovative without building up unnecessary tension. Can't wait to here what becomes of the Duchess in the next book.

What did you like best about The Trafalgar Gambit? What did you like least?

The characters are well developed, but the story lets down when it comes to resolution of the wider war. There's a lot of effort set up to build to something about the wider aliens and why they want to fight and then... there's almost an easy out.

Has The Trafalgar Gambit turned you off from other books in this genre?

This hasn't turned me off from the overall genre, but there are definitely better military space series.

What made the experience of listening to SpecOps the most enjoyable?

The humor in this book continues to be absolutely spectacular. This is very close to the dry wit you often get in the real military. Along with the Bobiverse series, this continues to be just a fun romp, but one with clearly some meat. This is not a drug-store romance. The seeds for a broader story continue to get planted and I'm looking forward to see where it goes.

What was one of the most memorable moments of SpecOps?

The continuing development of the relationship between Skippy and Joe Bishop and the increasing sense that there's something bigger going on.

What about R.C. Bray’s performance did you like?

The accent / drawl is spot on for many in the military.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

Skippy is one of the most dynamically funny characters and puts a new twist on the "rampant AI" concept.

Any additional comments?

The author is great in that it doesn't drag along too much suspense. Some authors increase suspense to the point where you want to throw the book down and walk away (and often actually do!), this increases to a reasonable point and then resolves it.

the story is somewhat unremarkable - neither bad nor great, but somewhere in between. what kills this though is the narration by the author. he moves fast and is very hard to understand.

idk if it's coincidence, but anything read by the great Luke Daniels tends to be fun.

this isn't a deep book, but it's a fun military scifi tale.

too often Norse mythology books are direct translations which can be intimidating for those not already inclined to read them. Gaiman's version is true to the tales without the awkward language.

What was your reaction to the ending? (No spoilers please!)

Covers just the section the description says - no more no less - entire story contained by The Last Colony

How did the narrator detract from the book?

She pronounces everything differently than the narrators of the other books. Had to stop and think a few times about what they were actually describing.
