Historia
R.W Johnson’s best-selling How Long Will South Africa Survive? was hailed by financial writer Alec Hogg as 'a masterpiece in unblemished reality'. Published at the height of the Zuma presidency, it accurately forecast that South Africa’s credit rating would be downgraded to junk status. Johnson warned that this sorry progress might end in an IMF bailout and wholesale change to the political system.

Historia
In Foreign Native, RW Johnson looks back with affection and humour on his life in Africa. From schooldays in Durban - fresh off the boat from Merseyside - to later years as an academic, director of the Helen Suzman Foundation and formidable political commentator, he has produced an entertaining and occasionally eye-popping memoir brimming with history, anecdote and insight. Johnson charts his evolution from enthusiastic, left-leaning Africanist to political realist, relating the episodes that influenced his intellectual worldview.

Historia
The Age of Surveillance Capitalism is neither a hand-wringing narrative of danger and decline nor a digital fairy tale. Rather, it offers a deeply reasoned and evocative examination of the contests over the next chapter of capitalism that will decide the meaning of information civilization in the 21st century. The stark issue at hand is whether we will be the masters of information and machines or its slaves.

We need to revolt against the machine
Revisado: 08-28-21
This is a fascinating analysis of the new economic system we find ourselves occupying.. Surveilance Capitalism. Under industrial capitalism worker surplus was extracted to render products to create profit in a world of surplus demand. Under surveillance capitalism, behavioural surplus is extracted to render compliant consumers to create profit is a world of surplus supply. Totalitarianist power is replaced by Instralmentenialist power. Walden Two utopia replaces 1984. BF Skinners model of behavioural modification replaces Hitlerian or Stalinist brutality of Animal Farm. A Brave New World indeed.
