Enter the chilling world of Ira Levin, where terror is as near as your new neighbors and where evil wears the most innocent face of all.

Easy “Read” and Great Performance
Revisado: 10-29-24
This novel exceeded my expectations. The writing is so clean and efficient— it never meanders or loses your attention. The characters are well done and quite authentic. I think that’s a big reason why the book remains entertaining and engaging.
And it’s crazy that Mia Farrow narrates. She’s so good! Such a treat. I guess the only “criticism” I’d have for the story itself is it ultimately lacks “literary depth.” But in a way that’s why it works. The book doesn’t try to be more than what it is. Overall I absolutely recommend this audiobook!

Historia
Locked In is a revelatory investigation into the root causes of mass incarceration by one of the most exciting scholars in the country. Having spent 15 years studying the data on imprisonment, John Pfaff takes apart the reigning consensus created by Michelle Alexander and other reformers, revealing that the most widely accepted explanations - the failed War on Drugs, draconian sentencing laws, an increasing reliance on private prisons - tell us much less than we think.

I walked away having internalized his main points, which he makes effectively and compellingly. Always a treat to find a book that truly changes your perspective on an issue. Highly recommended!

Historia
One of the 20th century's enduring works, One Hundred Years of Solitude is a widely beloved and acclaimed novel known throughout the world and the ultimate achievement in a Nobel Prize-winning career. The novel tells the story of the rise and fall of the mythical town of Macondo through the history of the Buendía family. Rich and brilliant, it is a chronicle of life, death, and the tragicomedy of humankind. In the beautiful, ridiculous, and tawdry story of the Buendía family, one sees all of humanity, just as in the history, myths, growth, and decay of Macondo, one sees all of Latin America.

Arduous but brilliant
Revisado: 03-10-18
This can be a rather wearying novel to digest in audio form, what with all the names and new characters coming at you from all directions every three sentences, but it’s a brilliant book and a truly remarkable literary achievement.

Historia
Russia expert Luke Harding lays out the most in-depth look to date at the Trump campaign's dealings with Russia. Beginning with a meeting with Christopher Steele, the man behind the shattering dossier that first brought the allegations to light, Harding probes the histories of key Russian and American players with striking clarity and insight. Harding exposes the disquieting details of the Trump-Russia story - a saga so huge it involves international espionage, offshore banks, sketchy real estate deals, mobsters, money laundering, disappeared dissidents, and more.

Well-Researched and Convincing
Revisado: 12-22-17
The story is extremely compelling and the integration of parallel plot lines and facts is phenomenal. There were moments while listening to the audiobook when I couldn’t easily discern whether the things being stated as fact were proven or surmised by the author. Much of the explanations and linking of events are based on the unsubstantiated allegations contained in the Steele dossier taking them for granted as true. To this effect Harding does a great job at selling the dossier as largely true, but there is some “grain of salt” or “let’s wait and see” material in here. After reading this book I am more inclined to share Harding’s dire views of the Trump administration and believe the general narrative laid out in Steele’s research. Can’t wait to see how close this book came to nailing it.
