I really loved this book. She talked realistically about some very undiscussed issues all in this story. Escaping extreme childhood poverty, racism, abuse, neglect, painful family backgrounds, difficult reconciliations. All there and very well written. Despite all the difficult emotional elements, it wasn't depressing. In the end you are filled with a sense of peace that she comes to find in the circumstances of her past and the excitement of where her future could bring her. (Trying not to give away any surprises. 😊)

laughed, mocked the ridiculous, cried, loved the story. I appreciate writers who help you feel what each character feels. The honorable, bewildered, worldly intellectual yet ignorant of the female perspective man's; and the heroic, lost, frustrated, finding her way to speak up for herself woman's love story.

I am often very sad when a romance story ends at the wedding. Life is just starting at a wedding. It is by no means the end of anything. While but a romantic romance story, this was perfect. The blending of so many details. And having survived rearing teenagers and many family gatherings. She is spot on with the erratic emotional 14 year old young women. Not as heartbreaking a story as the past books, but a refreshing story and I absolutely loved hearing stories that happen after the wedding. Especially the unique family dynamic of the Gerrard family.

Story to unrealisticfor me. Spoilers.

I like the characters and the series, but I agree with a previous review. The true romance of someone who has been so severely abused doesn't happen with a healthy relationship that quickly. It was fraught with some unrealistic details in the story line. I can't imagine any woman so severely beaten to be okay with marrying a man that night and being happy. It seemed like they wanted to finish up the story and just quickly put on an ending to get it over with. This story should've had the final scenes played out farther apart with more time for her to heal emotionally and at the very least physically before getting married. As well, I don't believe someone with Duncan's soft-hearted nature would've insisted on getting married that night. It was uncharacteristic of a man who truly loved a woman as he did. I still really enjoy the series. And I do like the characters. This story had just too many flaws for me to truly accept this as Annie and gentle Duncan's love story.

My favorite book of this series so far.

I've enjoyed binge listening to this series this past week while doing Christmas crafts. This book was my favorite by far. I was so moved by the story. Crying through the pain Bea was feeling. I really loved this story and more importantly, the way Bea moved through her issues with herself, her past and her future with the Duke.

Surprisingly, I actually did not know who the murderer was until the very end. I kind of suspected but never quite understood how or why until the very end. Great job!

I really love this series. Aside from guessing who the murderer would be before the murder even took place, I still enjoyed hearing the story unfold and finding out how Belinda was doing. And I really enjoy the long story of Lady Georgiana's life. I absolutely can't wait for the next book and look forward to her FINALLY getting married to Darcy!!
