She should never read out loud!
Revisado: 04-19-24
I can't recall the last time I suffered like this in the hands of a narrator. And I do a lot of audio books. I wanted to hear everything she had to say. But I hated every moment she took saying it. Her voice is a cocktail of tired and nasal. For such a good book, it's a tragedy she read it herself.

Historia
Almost every religion, spiritual practice, philosophy and person grapples with fear. The most repeated phrase in the Bible is “Be not afraid.” The ancient Greeks spoke of phobos, panic and terror. It is natural to feel fear, the Stoics believed, but it cannot rule you. Courage, then, is the ability to rise above fear, to do what’s right, to do what’s needed, to do what is true. And so it rests at the heart of the works of Marcus Aurelius, Aristotle, and CS Lewis, alongside temperance, justice, and wisdom.

Ryan Halliday always gets the job done. I enjoyed this book. I wanted to feed my mind and I’m well fed!
Ryan shouldn’t narrate, though. It’s always difficult listening to him at first. But once you get used to it, your enjoyment starts.

Horrible!
Revisado: 06-06-23
I’m returning this book. I feel like I’ve wasted precious time even starting it. If it was titled “A Book of Pithy Sayings”, it should at least get an A candour. But no. It aspired to be inspirational and life-changing, but it drowns itself and the reader in way too many quotes and pithy sayings that it’s an absolute horror to follow. I’m returning it to audible. It’s silly to have so many sayings back to back!

A Tonic to the Soul
Revisado: 02-06-23
In the pantheon of bestsellers, this book has a well earned place. It’s a tonic to the soul. It breaks down lofty aspirations to actionable nuggets. It takes the esoteric out of goals and suddenly you realize, this is doable! That, I think, is it’s most important quality.
The narration makes you forget that it’s a reading, rather than a telling. The easy flow of the cadence, the clarity of enunciation and the steady rhythm of the reading all combine to deliver an excellent experience. I think that if you never quite think of the narrator in an audiobook, it’s a mark that they’re doing the narration well. This narrator never intruded into my listening or thoughts. To the end.
Now, let re-listen to the book. That’s how good and useful it is!

Historia
William Barr’s first tenure as attorney general under President George H.W. Bush was largely the result of chance, while his second tenure under President Donald Trump a deliberate and difficult choice. In this candid memoir, Barr takes listeners behind the scenes during seminal moments of the 1990s, from the LA riots to Pan Am 103 and Iran Contra. Thirty years later, Barr faced an unrelenting barrage of issues, such as Russiagate, the COVID outbreak, civil unrest, the impeachments, and the 2020 election fallout.

A Thorough Partisan Tale
Revisado: 10-29-22
Bill Barr set out to separate the RNC from Trump. The singular point: RNC - good; DNC - satanic, vile and relentlessly evil; Trump - not good enough for the RNC. Now that you’ve read this, you’ve read the book! You can only listen to the book if you care for the unpretentiously biased view, with a side order of self-deluding sense of objectivity. My three stars are for the narration. He did an excellent job.

A for Effort...but I nearly puked.
Revisado: 08-13-18
My first star always goes to effort. If a person conceives an idea and works to actualize it, they deserve that pat on the back, for “many’s the slip twixt the cup and the lip.”
Beyond that, this book is nothing but a propaganda medium for Mr. Putin. I do not regret buying it bc I’m interested in knowing how very consequential people like Mr. Putin view the world. The person I have issues with is Oliver Stone. If he set out to be a journalist, he failed woefully. If this interview were conducted by Mr. Putin’s protégés, it couldn’t have been more groveling and mollycoddling. It’s a study in journalistic infantilism. Mr. Stone hates his country. And went proselytizing with Mr. Putin. It’s a shameful case of “see? I’m an American and I hate my country. Be impressed!” And Mr. Putin, smart as hell, treated him with the condescending patience with which intelligence approaches boring servility. Buy the book to be entertained by how cunning and smart Mr. Putin is. But have a barf bag close by. Mr. Stone will many times drive you to the brink his questions and lapdog obsequiousness!
