Historia
A disturbing audiotape has made its way to General Charles Ferguson, adviser to the Prime Minister, and from him to the President of the United States: battlefield chatter from an ambush in Helmand province, Afghanistan, in which twelve U.S. Army Rangers and a British medical team died. Most of the Taliban voices are Afghan, but not all of them — shockingly, some of them are British, and one in particular, the voice of the commander, bears an Irish accent.

Solid
Revisado: 09-05-24
Finally, after several Dillon books with our beloved anti hero standing on the sidelines/relegated to a side note, he finally emerges half way through this story. Still a little subdued but nevertheless back. The story itself was engaging but don’t expect Higgins to use a different blueprint.
The narrator did a much better job then the last time he was tasked to voice a Dillon book but I still prefer Michael Page most of the time.

Historia
A famous Russian writer and ex-paratrooper named Alexander Kurbsky has gotten fed up with the Putin government, and decides he wants to "disappear" into the West. He is under no illusions, however, about how the news will be greeted at home, having seen too many of his countrymen die mysteriously at the hands of the thuggish Russian security services, so he makes elaborate plans with Charles Ferguson, Sean Dillon and the rest of the group known informally as the "Prime Minister's private army".

One of the better “later” stories
Revisado: 08-26-24
Performance thankfully was back to what we’ve been used to. The story was engaging enough but again, this was a Sean Dillon story in name only. Don’t get me wrong, Dillon deserves some downtime and some happiness but JH should have been honest and called this and the last book a spin off or something. Missing the bad to the bone Provo from the first couple of books indeed.

A Dillon only in name
Revisado: 08-22-24
Thankfully the narrator is back to normal form and the story is regular Dillon fare but sadly, Dillon is nowhere to be found most times and when he does show up it’s to hold hands while some English Doppelgänger is impersonating him.

Historia
For intelligence operative Sean Dillon, it is a routine passport check. But the events it will lead to will be as bloody as any he has ever known. The man he stops at Heathrow airport is Caspar Rashid, born and bred in England, but with family ties to a Bedouin tribe fiercely wedded to the old ways, as he's just found out to his pain.

Not his best work
Revisado: 08-11-24
This story was a weak continuation of the previous book with plot lines lifted from previous books. Dillon was barely in it and when he is, he was the voice of reason to Bills wild side.
The narrator did not help the story by being monotone and accents barely distinguishing between characters. And by golly narrators out there. If you come in and take over for someone else, at least continue to pronounce names the same way (NovikOva or NovIkova, EEgor or IIgor?).

Historia
As Detective Superintendent Hannah Bernstein of Special Branch lies recuperating in the hospital, a dark shadow sent by a figure from the past steals across the room and finishes the job. Consumed by grief and rage, Dillon, Blake, and Ferguson swear vengeance, no matter where it takes them. But they have no idea of the searing journey, both physical and emotional, upon which they are about to embark - nor of the war that will change them all.

Disappointed
Revisado: 08-06-24
My initial happiness that Michael Page was back as the narrator quickly faded after discovering that he apparently forgot what the characters - he so successfully helped to bring to life - sound like. Billy sounded like Harry, Ferguson sounded more like Dillon half the time and Dillons portrayal was nondescript and lackluster.
Predictable/reliable story that moved a bit slower than usual. Mr. Page, I know you can do so much better.

Historia
Theodosia's Honey Bee Tea was an elegant affair set in Charleston's new Petigru Park amid newly planted native grasses and a community beekeeping project. But when a phony beekeeper shows up and sprays toxic smoke at the guests, the party erupts in chaos. Worse yet, a shot rings out and Osgood Claxton III, candidate for state legislature, falls to the ground—dead.

Disappointing
Revisado: 02-06-24
I am sad to say, but my favorite tea cosy either has jumped the shark or whatever ghost writer has been employed has not read the original books.
What happened to Theo and Drayton? Theo has turned into an inconsiderate know it all busy body that is mean, shallow and gets exited over magnetic eyelashes. She acts like a 12 year old teenager in dire need of a time-out and not like an intelligent 30 something business owner. Drayton begs for car chases? The police act like bumbling fools who can’t do their jobs and Theos boyfriend gives her insider police info instead of a reality check regarding her behavior. Delane has always been grating but these days she so intensely unlikable, it’s a mystery why Theo or anyone else in town even talks to her.
The last couple of books have been difficult to listen to due to the juvenile behaviors of the character and instead of this series getting back to its former standard, instead it’s getting worse. If this is a feeble attempt to garner the interest of a younger audience, the author is doing everyone a disservice. This book was filled with nothing but unlikable, self centered and mean characters. Shame on the author for destroying a lovely series

Historia
It was a dark and stormy night, but that was the least of Theodosia Browning's troubles. As she approaches St. Philips Graveyard, Theodosia sees two figures locked in a strange embrace. Wiping rain from her eyes, Theodosia realizes she has just witnessed a brutal murder and sees a dark-hooded figure slip away into the fog. In the throes of alerting police, Theodosia recognizes the victim—it is the daughter of her friend, Lois, who owns the Antiquarian Bookshop next door to her own Indigo Tea Shop.

Oh my. What was that?
Revisado: 01-26-24
Where to start. This was a hot mess. I don’t know if the author outsourced this story to some ghost writer or if she forgot what the main characters were suppose to be like. Theo and Drayton acted like completely different people.
Drayton is swearing and egging Theo on to do illegal things. The police is feeding her info instead of citing her for hindering an investigation and endangering people. Theo has turned into a rather mean spirited woman who cries “wolf” not once but constantly and not even close to be the super sleuth she keeps being called in this story. She morphed from a quick witted woman into an insufferable busy body, who is acting and behaving entitled, mean and downright stupid.
Has this series truly jumped the shark??
I have read and listen to every single tea shop book and yes, several have a bit of a weak story, but at least the characters were charming and intelligent even if not always believable.
The story had great potential but aside from the main characters behaving out of character, there were way too many poorly fleshed out suspects and way too many wild goose chases by a mindless, bumbling wanna be detective who won’t listen to friendly advice.
This particular story can be skipped.
On a happy side note, the narrator is doing an awesome job as always.

Excellent story telling but..
Revisado: 04-08-22
Another fabulous story by Mr. Eisler. As always, he is a master in writing fight scenes, fleshing our characters and keeping the story flowing. It was a long wait to have “the gang” back together and the story kept us going from start to finish. But, and sadly there is a but (and the reason for one star missing in my review). The book was giving potential readers the impression that John Rain was coming out of retirement. Rain IS in the book but if you are expecting him to be a full/integral part of the story, you will be disappointed. Sadly, our favorite assassin is merely a little blip in the story, a half forgotten side note that could have easily left out entirely and he felt like and afterthought to garner more readers/listeners.
It’s ok to retire John. He is getting older. That ok. Dox and the rest of the gang can carry a story just fine. But if you advertise that John is back, let him come back. In earnest and not like this. He didn’t add anything of real value to the story and that left us disappointed and dissatisfied and gave a very well written and narrated story a bit of a sour note it didn’t deserve.

When a joint FBI-Seattle Police investigation of an international child pornography ring gets too close to certain powerful people, sex-crimes detective Livia Lone becomes the target of a hit that barely goes awry - a hit that had been offered to John Rain, a retired specialist in "natural causes." Suspecting the FBI itself was behind the attack, Livia reaches out to former Marine sniper Dox. Together, they assemble an ad hoc group to identify and neutralize the threat. There’s Rain. Rain’s estranged lover, Mossad agent and honeytrap specialist Delilah.

Eisler at his best. Bravo!
Revisado: 12-17-19
Rarely do book series get better in time. But Mr. Eisler shows us, it can be done. This latest installment of John Rains exploits is a joy to read/listen to. Don’t get me wrong, the previous books were all stellar but this one, as well as “the Detachment” are top notch writing. Once you start the book, you are hard pressed to be able to stop until it’s over.
Mr. Eisler does a superb job introducing all of his characters, no matter from which series you are approaching this book, be it Rain, Livia or Trevon/Larison. I do hope we will see more Rain books in the future, albeit they probably would be set in the past, since our hero is stating to get a bit up there in age. This may have been the reason why most of the action in this book came from the other players, and little from him. I certainly hope we will see more of Rain-san (as well as Dox, Delilah, the Angel of Death and Livia but John is the reason why I am reading these books to be honest).
On a side note, the very first Rain audio book I listen to, was performed by someone other the author. When the subsequent books came out with the author being the narrator, I was apprehensive. Fear not, Mr. Eisler is not only a fantastic writer, he is also a fabulous narrator. His reading speed, punctuation, pronunciation and overall style is perfectly suited for his books and I hope he will never outsource the performance to anyone else ever again.
