Historia
Ten-year-old Patrick O'Brien is a natural target at school. Shy, dyslexic, and small for his age, he tries to hide his first-grade reading level from everyone: from his classmates, from the grandfather who cares for him, and from the teachers who are supposed to help him. But the real trouble begins when Patrick is accused of attacking a school aide. The aide promptly quits and sues the boy, his family, and the school district. Patrick's grandfather turns to the law firm of Rosato & DiNunzio for help, and Mary DiNunzio is on the case.

Good book that never ended
Revisado: 10-09-16
Would you try another book from Lisa Scottoline and/or Rebecca Lowman?
Good story but it got too big and unrealistic and ended like a romance novel. Too much "happy ending" for everyone. It got too predictable.
I kept waiting for it to end and started fast forwarding it to help it along. I don't remember her books taking so long to read.
Would you recommend Damaged to your friends? Why or why not?
Probably not.

Historia
Jacob Tomsky has worked in hotels for more than a decade, doing everything from valet parking to manning the front desk. He's checked you in, checked you out, separated your white panties from the white bed sheets, parked your car, tasted your room service, cleaned your toilet, denied you a late check out, given you a wake-up call, eaten M&Ms out of your mini-bar, laughed at your jokes, and taken your money. And in Heads in Beds, he pulls back the curtain on the hospitality business.

Historia
In Beatrice Prior's dystopian Chicago, society is divided into five factions, each dedicated to the cultivation of a particular virtue - Candor (the honest), Abnegation (the selfless), Dauntless (the brave), Amity (the peaceful), and Erudite (the intelligent). On an appointed day of every year, all sixteen-year-olds must select the faction to which they will devote the rest of their lives. For Beatrice, the decision is between staying with her family and being who she really is - she can't have both. So she makes a choice that surprises everyone, including herself.

Any additional comments?
I enjoyed reading this science fiction book. I normally read mysteries but was enchanted by the character adventures and of course the relationship that bloomed between the two lead female and male characters.

Historia
For two years, Megan, Peter, and their two older daughters, Alexis and Hannah, dream of nothing but being reunited with the family’s youngest child, Emma, who was kidnapped just before her third birthday. When Emma is miraculously found living with an elderly couple just miles from the family’s home, they are hopeful that her return will heal the wounds her disappearance created. But Emma is vastly different from the sunny toddler they remember. She barely remembers her parents or her older sisters. She is quiet and withdrawn, and, worst of all, longs for the very people who kidnapped her.

Too Dramatic!
Revisado: 05-03-14
Would you try another book from Steena Holmes and/or Kate Rudd?
Unlikely.
You didn’t love this book... but did it have any redeeming qualities?
The premise was enticing but the over-the-top drama of the mother, Megan made it nearly unbearable. She was so ego driven and lacked empathy for others especially the her daughter who recently was returned to their family. The father was the voice of reason and the daughter wise beyond her years and the mother didn't deserve either of them. Her drama was not driven by the kidnapping or external events but her own sense of insecurity, lack of esteem and need for attention.
Any additional comments?
It wasn't a complete waste of time but I felt cheated. The only reason I continued listening because of the father and daughter's characters.

Historia
Kim Miller is an immaculately put-together woman with a great career, a loving boyfriend, and a tidy apartment on Manhattan’s Upper West Side. You would never guess that Kim grew up behind the closed doors of her family’s idyllic Long Island house, navigating between teetering stacks of aging newspapers, broken computers, and boxes upon boxes of unused junk festering in every room - the product of her father’s painful and unending struggle with hoarding. In this moving coming-of-age story, Kim brings to life her rat-infested home and her childhood consumed by concealing her father’s shameful secret from friends.

Willing to be Frightened
Revisado: 05-03-14
Where does Coming Clean rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?
This was an amazing account of a woman's life as a child of hoarders. Her storytelling was compassionate and compelling. Normally I wouldn't read such a book as I have judgements about people who hoard. But Miller's narration drew me in from the very beginning and I couldn't stop listening. Even when I was uncomfortable and disgusted, I continued listening for what would happen next.

Performance of Narrator Loses Story
Revisado: 12-26-13
Would you say that listening to this book was time well-spent? Why or why not?
Berney's second book is not as developed as his first and his selection of narrator almost renders book unreadable (hard to listen to).
What was the most interesting aspect of this story? The least interesting?
The return of the characters from the first book--Shake, Gina, and Jasper. They were fully developed in the first book and return with half their personality but I'm glad to see them again.
What didn’t you like about Jeff Gurner’s performance?
Everything. He doesn't distinguish between characters, doesn't grasp Shake's emotional tones and ruins the relationship between Gina and Shake. The characters blend together as there is little emphasis and nuances between them. Bad narrator.
Any additional comments?
It's sad to see an author's second book stray so far from his first work.

When Charles "Shake" Bouchon, professional wheel man, walks out of prison after a three-year stretch for grand theft auto, he's got only two problems: he's too nice a guy for the life he's led and not nice enough for any other. So he says yes when he's asked to run a simple errand for his former boss and lover, Alexandra Ilandryan, the formidable pakhan of the Armenian mob in Los Angeles.

Loved it!
Revisado: 12-26-13
What did you like best about this story?
I stayed in the story the entire time. Often I lose my place or can't remember what last happened but in this story, I never forgot the story line. I listened to it not only in the car but at home.
Characters were realistic and likable. Pick it up!
Have you listened to any of Edoardo Ballerini’s other performances before? How does this one compare?
Edoardo is the perfect reader. I'm listening to Berney's second book as the narrator lacks the chops to do the book justice.

Engrossing But Wore Me Out
Revisado: 11-13-13
Would you try another book from Nele Neuhaus and/or Robert Fass?
I would read another book with caution. The book's premise was complex and quite interesting. However, it just wouldn't end because there were so many twists and turns that needed concluding. A little less complication would allowed the ending to come sooner ending on a higher note but still satisfying.
The story was strong enough with adding more and more twists.

Elementary Dialogue Leaves You Speechless
Revisado: 10-26-13
What would have made The Cold Kiss better?
The main characters were so stupid and senseless. Even though the female character is young, her lack of experience, maturity and intellect made it almost unbearable to listen to her. Her boyfriend who is suppose to have a criminal background is why criminals get caught--not bright. Smarter main characters would have improved the story. The characters at the motel were more interesting than the two main characters.
What three words best describe Paul Michael Garcia’s voice?
Fine narrator.
You didn’t love this book... but did it have any redeeming qualities?
The characters at the hotel were interesting and more savvy than one would have thought for living in the boondocks.
Any additional comments?
I listened to this while driving and every time I started the book back up I could never remember the story line. It took me a few minutes to remember what I last listened to. This should have been a sign that it was boring and I didn't care about any of the characters. I was not engaged listening to it. I'd skip this one if you're considering this book.
