Historia
Ulysses S. Grant's life has typically been misunderstood. All too often he is caricatured as a chronic loser and an inept businessman or as the triumphant but brutal Union general of the Civil War. But these stereotypes don't come close to capturing him, as Chernow reveals in his masterful biography, the first to provide a complete understanding of the general and president whose fortunes rose and fell with dizzying speed and frequency.

Current vs Past
Revisado: 04-01-24
The America of the present could learn so much from the past as presented in this amazing work. The character of a man and the nature of men, society and politics put into perspective, objective and poignant. I am grateful for the author and narrator for this "truth" as it is.

The career of Pericles, the leading Athenian politician and general from c. 450 to 429 B.C., is a prism through which to view the "Golden Age" of Greece, a brief but remarkable era when Athens experienced a cultural flowering of extraordinary power and importance for Western culture. These 24 stimulating lectures present a well-rounded portrait of almost every aspect of Athenian life during the Golden Age.

Historia
"Live each day as if it were your last." Written in Greek by the only Roman emperor who was also a philosopher, without any intention of publication, Marcus Aurelius's Meditations offers a remarkable series of challenging spiritual reflections and exercises developed as the emperor struggled to understand himself and make sense of the universe.

Personal Light in the dark.

I found the material far more 'personal' because of the orator. Listening through my pillow gave my sleep a spiritual guide. Very nice experience no matter how many nights I repeat the Meditations.
