Historia
Among the best books ever written about men in combat, The Killing Zone tells the story of the platoon of Delta One-six, capturing what it meant to face lethal danger, to follow orders, and to search for the conviction and then the hope that this war was worth the sacrifice. The book includes a new chapter on what happened to the platoon members when they came home.

Historia
When Michael Pollan set out to research how LSD and psilocybin (the active ingredient in magic mushrooms) are being used to provide relief to people suffering from difficult-to-treat conditions such as depression, addiction, and anxiety, he did not intend to write what is undoubtedly his most personal book. But upon discovering how these remarkable substances are improving the lives not only of the mentally ill but also of healthy people coming to grips with the challenges of everyday life, he decided to explore the landscape of the mind in the first person as well as the third.

This book affected me profoundly
Revisado: 10-13-22
This book flashed me back to some of my own psychedelic experiences, many of which seem to belong to a previous life for me, since I was much younger, single, without children etc. I can’t say for sure but something in the way he recounts his own experience had a profound impact on my meditation practice. The last several days of meditation have been the best of my whole practice. I have remembered the places my mind has been and allowed myself to open the “reducing valve of consciousness” during my sitting. Only the second book I’ve read from Michael Pollen, the other being Caffein. I loved them both! Fantastic writer, thinker, story teller. Now I want to read all of his books!

Historia
Tim Kennedy has a problem; he only feels alive right before he’s about to die. Kennedy, a Green Beret, decorated Army sniper, and UFC headliner, has tackled a bull with his bare hands, jumped out of airplanes, dove to the depths of the ocean, and traveled the world hunting poachers, human traffickers, and the Taliban. But he’s also the same man who got kicked out of the police department, fire department, and as an EMT, before getting two women pregnant four days apart, and finally, been beaten up by his Special Forces colleagues.

I loved this book. Will most definitely be reading it many more times! Tim Kennedy covers a wide range of crazy experiences from fighting terrorists to training with Chuck Liddell and a whole lot in between. It covers a wide emotional range too, I cried like 6 times in this book. A must read!

Historia
What is genius? The word evokes iconic figures like Einstein, Beethoven, Picasso, and Steve Jobs, whose cultural contributions have irreversibly shaped society. Yet Beethoven could not multiply. Picasso couldn’t pass a fourth grade math test. And Jobs left high school with a 2.65 GPA. The Hidden Habits of Genius explores the meaning of this contested term, and the unexpected motivations of those we have dubbed "genius" throughout history, from Charles Darwin and Marie Curie to Leonardo Da Vinci and Andy Warhol to Toni Morrison and Elon Musk.

Revisado: 03-14-22
Extremely well researched, well written, great performance. I’ve rekindled my love of reading over the last couple years. I have read 105 books since January of last year about 75% of them nonfiction and this is one of the best I’ve read. Highly recommend.

Historia
Centuries ago, Spanish conquistadors searching for gold and new lands encountered a group of independent city-states in Mesoamerica. Sophisticated beyond the Spaniards' wildest imaginings, these people were the Aztecs, the Maya, and related cultures that shared common traditions of religion, government, the arts, engineering, and trade. In many ways more advanced than European nations, these societies equaled the world's greatest civilizations of their time.

As a new dad I’ve read a lot of parenting books…
Revisado: 08-24-21
And don’t get me wrong, the books written by women for women have a ton of great material, especially for how to support my wife. But Armin Brotts books have helped ME tremendously! I appreciate his emphasis on active fathering and how he points out and disarms the many parenting myths around fatherhood. His book The Expectant Father was the book that most prepared me for the birth of my son, which was far crazier and emotionally vivid than any other moment in my life. And this book has helped me to get a grasp on the milestones I have to look forward to now that we’re home and parenting (our son is 10 days old as I wrote this). Thanks Armin, sincerely, you helped me grasp the task at hand, from so many different angles!

Why we think it’s a great listen: Seabiscuit was a runaway success, and Hillenbrand’s done it again with another true-life account about beating unbelievable odds. On a May afternoon in 1943, an Army Air Forces bomber crashed into the Pacific Ocean and disappeared, leaving only a spray of debris and a slick of oil, gasoline, and blood. Then, on the ocean surface, a face appeared....

Another stellar Crypto book from Casey and Vigna
Revisado: 06-30-21
I fell in love with their first book on this topic, “The Age of Cryptocurrency”. Very well researched and presented although given it’s age, quite outdated.
I suppose this book too, is getting to be a bit outdated, but just like the first helped me to learn and appreciate the origins and historically significant events pertaining to crypto, this book helped me to see the wider capabilities of cryptocurrencies aside from just a digital store of value.
The narration is just a bit on the dry side though (admittedly it is not the most sexy topic to narrate.)

Podcast format between chapters
Revisado: 12-03-19
I was back and forth on the podcast format. Sometimes I hated it. Other times I was totally drawn into it. It really does offer some awesome behind the scenes insights though, so if you are put off by it at first it does have some pretty soaring high points throughout. Just hang in there.
