I was curious to see what the field of architecture was saying around global warming and design, so this title caught my eye.

I was pleasantly surprised with how many practical changes that would be suggested later on. What I really didn't expect - and also loved - was the time the author spent talking about the way humans have designed separation between themselves and nature, and the different ways this has hurt us. This book felt almost like a reminder to reconnect with the spiritual idea of life, in that way.

I know many will find it a little dry - we're talking about urban design, after all - but a very enjoyable read. It is a critique of the status quo, encouragement to be creative, a reminder to connect to the world more thoughtfully, and examples of better practices that gives hope for the future. Loved it.

Mitchell really spoke to the reason why I first fell in love with urban planning. It was an empowering interview.
