Lack of Agency
Revisado: 11-13-23
DNF. There wasn't anything tremendously wrong with this audiobook I was a couple hours in when I quit I was just bored and the main character was just...nothing. She was played as a mousy office worker and that didn't seem to be changing once she got into the new universe. What made it worse for me was at least the whole first part of the book leaned on her having and over powered luck stat. She didn't have to ever do anything the second anything made a move at her they 'luckily' died. Jane just wandered with no plans or will from one situation to another that just solved itself for her due to the luck stat. She made almost zero choices and wasn't even quick on the on the uptake. Doesn't make for an engaging character or story.

Arthur lives with his father, a fallen but proud former noble, in Border Village #49, along with the other good folks condemned to toil in service to the Baron. But Arthur has an edge: a stolen heart card that secretly fell into his possession, thanks to a dragon. It’s a priceless source of power for the Baron and the tyrant will kill to get it back. Invaluable, too, to a young man of spellcasting ambitions.

If you liked the first...
Revisado: 07-08-23
As many other readers say this is a fairly slow book. They found the egg at the end of the last book but you won't see a dragon hatch from it for a least half of this book. If you liked the first one though this second is fairly similar, I can see others getting frustrated with the lack of combat cards especially because the author keeps bringing it up themselves half of the character keep going "you need a combat card.' and our MC repeatedly passes on them lol. I don't mind and I like some of the trickery that lets the MC win though there is once or twice that the author could have let him loose and there would have been zero consequences and it could have been a good learning experience for our guy.
My biggest issue with the book was actually the dragon who is basically a 'might makes right' asshole willing to kill other people like a psychopath from the get go. He's rude and loud and I can see where the author was maybe trying to be funny but no one ever calls the dragon on his BS and that's dangerous to let this little being go around without correcting bad behavior.
Overall I enjoyed it and I'll get the next one to see where this goes but I might drop it later if the dragon continues to be an Ahole.

First book was fine
Revisado: 03-26-23
The reader is a little boring though he does do voices etc it does the job. Our main character who is supposed to be a retired guard for a major city was ok the first book but in this book spend most of the book acting like an upset teenager. So the town hid something from you and pushed you into what could have been a dangerous situation. But he spends most of the book lording it over everyone ‘but you LIED to me!!’ Expecting discounts etc for waaaaay too long. You’re allowed to be upset but if you’re that upset maybe you just need to move. He doesn’t even try to see where the village was coming from till he gets yelled at by his love interest when it’s been blatantly explained. Bro you were supposedly mediating half your life as a guard!
Not into it. Won’t read the next one.

Jin Rou wanted to be a cultivator. A man powerful enough to defy the heavens. A master of martial arts. A lord of spiritual power. Unfortunately for him, he died, and now I’m stuck in his body. Arrogant Masters? Heavenly Tribulations? All that violence and bloodshed? Yeah, no thanks. I’m getting out of here. Farm life sounds pretty great. Tilling a field by hand is fun when you’ve got the strength of ten men—though maybe I shouldn’t have fed those Spirit Herbs to my pet rooster.

Great but not for everyone
Revisado: 07-21-22
If you like some slice of life farming stuff, this is for you. The MC hinted at being OP but he doesn’t do too much with it in this book so if you are looking for that over powered experience you’ll probably be disappointed. I really liked it though and am looking forward to the next volume.

Sounds like it was written by a robot
Revisado: 05-29-22
I’m not going to finish this. It’s not exactly bad. If you want a ‘just ok’ litrpg then this is fine. What I can’t stand is that the writer almost never uses contractions when characters are speaking?! It’s always ‘can not, will not , we will, do not, would not’ and very rarely ‘can’t, won’t, we’ll, don’t’ this works for the AIs the PCs are interacting with but NOT for the PCs. Everyone sounds stiff, awkward and either like they are unfamiliar with English or are an AI themselves. Including the MC. Yanks me out of immersion ever conversation. I don’t understand why the writer chose to write like this. Not for me.

Historia
Lieutenant Callum Harper knows that his team are as tough as they come: nine highly trained men and women and one battle robot who’s 11 feet of pure, cybernetic muscle. But as they drop through the atmosphere of the uncharted planet Capsun 23, Cal can’t shake the feeling that something is off about this mission. Three data drones have previously touched down, but soon after went dark. And now, all communication with a group of civilian researchers has been lost. Intel suspects scavengers are to blame - or at worst, pirates. But Cal’s instincts are telling him otherwise.

Slow Narrator!
Revisado: 03-02-22
Pretty standard aliens style space marines fighting aliens on an unknown planet. Nothing super original but it’s not bad if that’s what you are looking for.
The narrator reads this like he’s got all the time in the world. So slow. And this is supposed to be a fast paced thriller type. I usually do not up the playback speed on audiobooks but I had to about halfway through because it was irritating me and the slow and deliberate delivery was killing all tension.
Still I am considering buying the next book because I can just speed him up.

Could have left that Trope to Japanese Isekai
Revisado: 01-02-22
You know, maybe this wasn't written for me. I've always liked isekai way back to Magic Night Rayearth. I know there's a lot of problematic tropes and things I don't like and try to avoid. The slavery tope is almost unavoidable and I can tolerate some mild layers of it often it's used as a way to say 'oh wow look at how different this new world is!' but when characters actively participate as this guy does, even though he wasn't mean to her before I stopped reading I loose all sympathy. he has no intentions of letting her go and is using his treatment at the beginning as a lame excuse to be cruel to murder people in general. It's weak. And then he decides he's going to comb her hair every night??? He even admits to not know how? She is a full grown woman she can comb her own hair?????? What is this. Just some uber lame attempt by the author to have him be able to touch her without it being 'bad' too late its already bad. I stopped reading and returned it. If the author wanted an edgy character he could had him curb stomp a couple bad guys, start an assassins' guild or something.
I see a lot of people saying he copied Shield Hero but when you copy you can leave stuff out you know.

Things are looking up for Jax, more or less. He's met a cool girl (who's a wisp), got some new friends (who're Dwarves and Cat people and Elves and all sorts), and started a war.... (Whoops!) Only thing is, they say an Englishman's home is his castle, and Jax's home is in ruins...this place isn't going to be any use in defending his new people unless he gets it sorted, and fast!

You get used to the narrators voice
Revisado: 10-20-21
As many stated on the first book. This narrators voice acting is……mildly grating lol. I got used to it eventually and laughed at some points in both books at the just terrible choices. Every Scottish accent is just shades of Sean Connery. But over I actually like this story. Women are not portrayed great but they aren’t as bad as many litrpgs. There’s some base building which I enjoyed and less 10 min long lists of spells and descriptions. The main character is still a stupid gorilla but has grown a little from the first book and he is really oddly just diving into being the lord of this tower. He stresses how people don’t have to call him lord and mentions being uncomfortable but he’s darn comfortable ordering people around and basically telling them ‘my way or the highway’ on a fair amount of issues. Thought he does ask advice.
My biggest gripe is a Minor spoiler in regards to his interacting with his goddess ‘janae’ (unsure I spelled that correctly). He’s mildly disrespectful at one point saying I’m JUST talking to janae and due to some other factors she basically gets angry and attacks his mind with pain. At the end the conversation boils down to her apologizing and giving him a gift but basically excising it by saying ‘you were just so disrespectful I got angry’ and he was like ‘ok don’t do it again’. What a freaking lame apology and that blamed him as the cause. I don’t care he was disrespectful, you don’t torture your follower for a mild verbal faux pas and apologizing but making it their fault is abuser logic!
It’s a small part but I ended up yelling in my car about it lol. Otherwise it’s fine. It’s no Dungeon Crawler Carl but it’s decent and soaks up the hours while driving.

What is time?
Revisado: 10-05-21
Love this whole series. If you can hang with a fair amount of potty humor this these are well written, well performed and seem to be generally well thought out. Very much worth it. My biggest issue is the passage of time in this whole thing. MC has leveled up, built a town, a boat, brought in multiple trips of refugees, fought off a siege, partially excavated and rebuilt a castle among other things and the author insists that all of this has only taken something like a couple of weeks to a month. Imagine the confused blinking man gif here. I have decided that this has all been about 3 months of effort and I ignore the author any time he tries to say otherwise.

Revisado: 04-20-21
I echo all that has been said before and the hours really flew by on this. Main character is nice and it’s a cute change of pace from super dark main characters or harem or a lot of dumb bro jokes.
As an introvert and someone who worked retail for 15 years and now hates people Broccoli did start to grate on me as we got around more and more people and she practically greeted everyone with ‘Hi I’m Broccoli, and we’re going to be BEST FRIENDS.’ Just cringe at the thought of being on the other side of that. Also why does she need friends so badly? That single minded FRIENDS focus is a little creepy to me on a personal level lol
