Historia
Years after a meteorite strike obliterated Washington, DC—triggering an extinction-level global-warming event—Earth’s survivors have started an international effort to establish homes on space stations and the Moon. The next step–Mars. Elma York, the Lady Astronaut, lands on the Red Planet, optimistic about preparing for the first true wave of inhabitants. The mission objective is more than just building the infrastructure of a habitat–they are trying to preserve the many cultures and nuances of life on Earth without importing the hate. But from the moment she arrives, something is off.

Wonderful Lady Astronaut Novel!
Revisado: 04-11-25
There are a lot of people who complained about this book, but I loved it! I understand the gripes (such as much of the "action" being off stage), but this is a story about Elma being on Mars and going through her character growth. As much as people want these novels to be about the stuff that happenes, what I enjoy more about these books are the ways the characters grow and interact. The stories are about people and not the drama.
The science and politics are super interesting and there were a few events and conversations that made me think. I really hope that we can some day create the international coalition that is created in this world in our own.
I loved the conclusion to the Lady Astronaut series and hope you do too.

Historia
When a Republic spy goes missing on the Moons of Varl, the Jedi Council asks Obi-Wan and Anakin to infiltrate an underground podracing circuit run by a crime boss believed to be holding the spy prisoner. With Anakin posing as a hotshot racer and Obi-Wan as his attendant, tensions between the two threaten to run even higher than usual. But when Obi-Wan is forced to leave Varl, Anakin is on his own as he faces a series of increasingly treacherous races that will determine his fate—and that of the spy.

Exciting and Believable Star Wars Story
Revisado: 03-07-25
I enjoyed this story more than I thought I would. The story leveraged quite a bit on information we know from The Phantom Menace and I felt that both Anakin's and Obi Wan's characters were believable and consistent (their characters were the most compelling aspect of the story for me). The pod racing was fun and I enjoyed the emotional reactions it created within Anakin. Finding the missing Republic operative concluded a little easier than expected but this is supposed to be a story for kids so... I think my child will enjoy the story when he's old enough to read it himself. I recommend it if you are interested in something short and fun.

Decent Reading
Revisado: 12-30-24
It's a decent summary of Star Wars: The Phantom Menace. The narrator is a bit boring (the recording makes him sounds like a computer reading the story instead of a person). It's a passable reading when I'm too tired to read the story to my son myself.

The second half of each chapter is Steve's commentary on that passage. Love It!
Revisado: 12-11-24
I do have to admit, that even though they say you don't have to read "The War of Art" before this book, I would personally recommend it. Understanding Resistance is key. Going through this book makes me want to read/listen to all of his other books I haven't read/listened to yet. I found this very encouraging and have already listed to it 2x. I often found myself saying, "yup. I gotta do that." Also, I enjoyed Pressfield's perspective on each artist experiencing their own "hero's journey" and how we must transition from the hero's to the artist's journey.
This audio has now been added to my "favorite, I'll listen to it whenever I'm in a funk" list.

What a sweet adventure that promotes believing in yourself, being kind, and opening yourself up to the strength of friendship. I loved the twists and turns made out of popular fairytales such as Rapunzel, Cinderella, and Sleeping Beauty. I look forward to reading more stories about Rumaysa.

Ever since Ms. Murphy told us about the witch trials that happened centuries ago right here in Juniper, I can’t stop thinking about them. Those people weren’t magic. They were like me. Different like me. I’m autistic. I see things that others do not. I hear sounds that they can ignore. And sometimes I feel things all at once. I think about the witches, with no one to speak for them. Not everyone in our small town understands. But if I keep trying, maybe someone will. I won’t let the witches be forgotten. Because there is more to their story. Just like there is more to mine.

What a beautiful story!
Revisado: 06-16-24
This was such a beautiful story! Great for middle grade and, in my opinion, good for those who want a glimpse into the world of someone on the spectrum. For sure this isn't everyone's experience, but there were so many parallels.
Personally, I found the story very relatable and became very emotional as the story progressed. It didn't feel preachy in any way and felt very authentic.
I highly recommend it.

I truly appreciate this story of how much children can struggle through life and how important it is to find those who you can trust and relate to. Bullying may have been what inspired this story, but it's so much bigger than that. My favorite part is that there are 7 middle school children who are all having a hard time in life for their various reasons and come to know and understand each other. I think it's a great book to open young people's minds about others experiences. I highly recommend it.

Wow.
Revisado: 08-29-23
I enjoyed this more than I thought I would. I really enjoyed the Native American Fantasy, learned a little more of Navajo mythology than I knew before. The story was crafted well and the twists were satisfying. The struggles Maggie experienced throughout were deep and poinyent, there were so many levels of hurt I really wanted something to go right for her. There is a lot of darkness in this story but I love the idea that you always have a choice. That is what made this story great for me.
