Every man was once a boy. And every little boy has dreams, big dreams: dreams of being the hero, of beating the bad guys, of doing daring feats and rescuing the damsel in distress. Every little girl has dreams, too: of being rescued by her prince and swept up into a great adventure, knowing that she is the beauty.

Christians beware
Revisado: 08-25-24
There is so much wrong with this book. It pulls you in by condemning the church for supporting feminisms desire for weak men. The problem is that the rest of the book is telling men to "be themselves", and assumes we only put in effort because of "wounds." Somehow if we follow God's plan, every thing will be easier. ugh, he jumps all over the place too.
I read about 40 books a year. There is no content in this book worth hearing. Plenty of truisms to make you feel good, but no content to help a man. Even if you like the author, his information does not apply to today's men.
This book is what you recommend to a husband who has been lied to, cheated on, and falsely accused. In order to make him feel like he is important and keep putting in effort when he should have divorced and started over.
This book is a pep talk for losers so they don't wake up and quit.

The Myth of Male Power

Historia
For the audio book version, Dr. Warren Farrell personally rewrote the highlights of The Myth of Male Power as a dialogue. The questions are similar to what others will ask you when you discuss these issues. You’ll have Dr. Farrell’s best answers. The Myth of Male Power helps each family member understand that genuine power is neither status nor money, but “control over one's life.” He documents that virtually every society that has survived has done so by persuading its sons to be disposable--whether in war or in work; and therefore indirectly as dads. And disposability is not power. Considered the Bible of men's studies—yet highly empathetic to women (Dr. Farrell was repeatedly elected to the Board of the National Organization for Women in NYC)-- the meticulously researched The Myth of Male Power takes the listener on a captivating journey around the world, throughout history, biology, the Bible, the law, and everyday life, challenging every currently-held assumption about men, women and the family.

Weaving half truths. He's still a feminist.
Revisado: 01-19-24
Let me summarize. Women shed thier responsibilities and we blamed men. He wants men to shed thier responsibilities too and still blames men.
Men need to be aware of this type of manipulation. Women, and in this case, some men, will empathize with men in order to keep them investing. All of his content is focused on this alone, keep men investing regardless of the risks to them.

Historia
Tribalism is one of the most complex and ancient evolutionary forces; it gave us the capacity for cooperation and competition, and allowed us to navigate increasingly complex social landscapes. It is so powerful that it can predict our behavior even better than race, class, gender, or religion. But in our vast modern world, has this blessing become a curse? Our Tribal Future explores a central paradox of our species: how altruism, community, kindness, and genocide are all driven by the same core adaptation.

Ironic
Revisado: 12-23-23
I like the research but the political opinion sections are hilariously self unaware. I wouldn't even mind the one-sided views if it were not presented so smug and self righteous.
This could have been a good book. The sections on tribalism are either obvious to any mature adult or regularly explained in books on emotional health.
I titled my review ironic because the author explains how individuals choose group beliefs over the truth. Then explains his group beliefs. He explains how much of our divisive politics brain wash us. Then tells us about his absolute support for one political party.
I cannot recommend this book.

Top of my list for water preparation
Revisado: 09-21-23
I read a lot. None of my other prep books go over soap making, laundry, building an out house, or have near the detail on purification. It's a good audio book but I will purchase a copy for reference.

You're not a loser but he will try to say you are
Revisado: 07-23-23
This book was tough. I wanted to believe it was difficult because I had the issues it was ment to resolve. No, the more I listen the more I realized three things.
One, women are never blamed and no allowance is made for our current brand of feminism.
Two, this was written for the 90's husband stuck in a sexless marriage. My generation doesn't have wives. If we were married, the slightest sign of a backbone would send us straight to divorce court.
Three, everything is generalized. You're a nice guy if you want sex, you're a nice guy if you don't want sex. it's all word play. Every man can read this and believe he has a problem. What's the solution? More bs like prioritize yourself but don't ignore your partner. For you intellectuals who believe I may be being hyperbolic, there is no narrowing of an ideal or explanation of what a healthy man does.
The most obvious reason not to read this book today is because it simply doesn't not apply. The author moved out of the states like a passport bro. Of course it's easy mode there. If you dig, some basics of masculinity can be found but nothing you cannot get anywhere else.
last note, if you were raised Christian this book was written to antagonize you. Because of your faith you inevitably will have less sexual experience. He almost constantly bashes the normal process a man gains sexual experience.

Historia
This is the story of a man who said that he would stop the motor of the world - and did. Is he a destroyer or a liberator? Why does he fight his hardest battle not against his enemies, but against the woman he loves? Tremendous in scope, breathtaking in its suspense, Atlas Shrugged is Ayn Rand's magnum opus and launched an ideology and a movement. With the publication of this work in 1957, Rand gained an instant following and became a phenomenon.

Occasional background noise. Excellent reader and story. This is my new favorite book. The principles offered are universal. Many parallels with current society.
