This book is a fascinating read! Unfortunately the language is a little inaccessable, and the narrator's monotonous freight train delivery makes absorbing the content a titanic task in itself. What a tragedy!

I enjoyed the content of this book, but the narration was uninspired. He sounds uninterested in what he's reading, and I found myself spacing out every few minutes. I found this truly tragic as his accent is interesting, and there's information here I haven't encountered before that my brain kept slipping right over.

There was nothing earthshattering in this one, but there was a little bit of misinformation and outdated terminology (We don't talk about Aryan tribes anymore, guys. They were the top echelon of South Asia in Vedic times, not European tribes.) Beside that, the narrator's constant mispronunciations are downright painful.

*sigh* Do no occult writers have any grasp of grammar? Between the confusing wording and the slow and halting narration, this book is painful to listen to.

Jake Abel as Edward was inspired casting. He manages to capture the intensity and the nuances of mood and emotion that make Edward such an engaging character, deeply flawed as he is. He's even more enthralling than how Edward sounded in my own mind when I read the books as a teenager, and I feel justified in indulging this guilty pleasure.

A Good Vocabulary Does Not Good Writing Make

This could have been such a great book. So much about it was directly on point. The Indian mythological tradition is *beautifully* transcribed into modern fantasy. There's plenty of action, the imagery is vivid (sometimes disturbingly so), the story intrigues, the characters both male and female are complex and relatable, and Vikas Adam performs the material flawlessly!

But the writing. Dear lord, the writing. My English composition teacher would have had an absolute conniption over this author's overuse of passive verb tenses, and he spends way too much time restating the same idea or description in six different ways before continuing with the story. All in all, it dragged and lacked the punch even a slightly more direct writing style could have lent, and the book suffers for it.

There's a good bit of info here that could potentially help a lot of people. I found my mind wandering a lot, though. Perhaps this audiobook could function as an object of concentration practice :D

This author's writing is belabored and redundant, and too much of his information is either incorrect or incompletely presented. He sometimes fails to convey the point of the myth, offering a series of events with no climax or lesson. He does offer a decent handshake with world mythology, however. You'll be familiar with some of the important names and places by the end. As an aside, Oliver Hunt is a very pleasant narrator.

Wow! Either this book was translated poorly from another language, or the author needs to fire her editor. The grammar is atrocious and makes an already fringe subject sound like a ditzy C student's high school term paper. I wish I'd listened to the sample before I bought it.

The Trouble With Narrators

Loved the story, but I had a hard time with the narrator. Her delivery is halting in a way that almost makes me motion sick. :(
