I believe this book has much to offer in rethinking what self care actually means and looks like based on our experiences and identities. Unfortunately, this is a case where the author should not have narrated their own book. The author's near-constant vocal fry was so irritating that I couldn't get through chapter two. I'll buy a physical copy of the book.

I've tried several times now to listen to this book. I'm currently watching the miniseries "Dopesick" which is so excellent and compelling, so I thought I'd give the Audible version another try. I'll have to read it instead. Beth Macy may be a good, even great writer, but she really should have let someone else narrate this book.

I have loved Elton John's music since I was a 7th grader (many, many moons ago). This may not be an accurate review, as I have only started chapter two, but what I've heard so far has been delightful and poignant. Unfortunately, there are also horror tales of the abuse Elton suffered as a child. If I had any criticism, it's that Elton only read the dedication and forward - I was really looking forward to hearing his voice. But I must say, this narrator is killin' it! And Elton is a wonderful storyteller.

This compelling story falls under the, "Truth is stranger than fiction," category. I shook my head in disbelief often while listening to this incredible tale thinking, how can grown adults be so easily duped? The events leading up to the murders of Billie Jean Hayworth and Billy Payne are quite disturbing, considering the role social media played. The narrator's performance was first-rate, especially when reading the emails/posts written by Jennelle. I have an hour commute to/from work, so between that and listening in the wee hours of the morning when insomnia kicked in, I finished the book in a few days. I watched part of the "20/20" interviews (very interesting to see Jennelle and her mother in action!), and hope to find the Investigation Discovery episode as well.

I usually like Kathryn Casey's books, but this one missed the mark. It was too much like a Lifetime "Moment of Truth" movie - you know, where the plucky heroine, unsupported by family or the authorities, risks life and limb to solve a crime, right a wrong, bring someone to justice, and so on. But staying with your husband so that you can protect your daughter from ... your husband? Linda Bergstrom's logic just didn't make sense. This book is a case where truth is certainly stranger than fiction.

I saw a story about Linda Hazzard on the true crime show, "Deadly Women." Gregg Olsen has been interviewed on the show. And I live in the Pacific Northwest, so these three items combined helped me decide to get this audiobook. I really enjoyed it. I find it fascinating how people will believe anything if they think it will improve their health. Linda's relationship with her husband was intriguing. The details of the court case were also very interesting. There is only one drawback to this audiobook: the narrator. She had a fairly decent British accent, and she was able to change her voice for different characters, but she had the most annoying style of reading! She would pause ... for no ... apparent reason ... throughout one sentence when ... she could ... have ... read it in one breath. Other than that, I would recommend the book.

Disappointing. The first few chapters were a waste of time. Too much explanation and convincing the listener about the process. Just get on with the actual meditations! And while I have great respect for Jon Kabat-Zinn's work, as he truly is a pioneer in the field, he really, really needs to let someone else narrate.

Can't Get Enough Ann Rule!!

I've been an Ann Rule fan for years - but now that I live in the Pacific Northwest, I'm even more of a fan. It's been a while since I was so hooked to a story, I listened to the events unfold during every spare moment I could steal away from the daily grind. The story of Randy Roth was utterly fascinating. My only criticism - and I admit, I'm probably being picky - is the narration. This is the second time I've listened to an audiobook narrated by Laural Merlington (and again, that was another fascinating audiobook I couldn't put down), and ... she over-enunciates. For example, every time she says "our," it sounds like "ow-wer." But she does read at a perfect pace, I'll say that. So overall, if you are a True Crime fan, get this audiobook!

I wasn't sure purchasing this audiobook was a wise choice. "Thirty hours? Really?" I thought. Having read and seen "The Smartest Guys in the Room," however, this book seemed like the next step. I was not disappointed!! It was like crack in audiobook form. From the first chapter, the listener is drawn into the fascinating financial maelstrom that is the notorious Enron legacy. Eichenwald's writing provides much detail without it being overwhelming, while moving the story along at a compelling pace - not an easy combination to achieve - and Robertson Dean's narration ... I would listen to that man read from the telephone book. I'd have to say this is one of the best audiobooks I've ever listened to. My only recommendation would be to keep a running list of all the players, because so many people are involved.

Undoing Depression Audiolibro Por Richard O'Connor arte de portada

A Comprehensive Resource

This is a treasure trove for any and everything you'd like to know about depression. It's written in layman's terms. There is an abundance of research presented. Best of all, the author himself has experienced depression, so he knows what he's talking about. I am slogging my way through a major episode of depression at this time, so I understand what people mean when they say, "Listening to this book made me feel depressed/worse." While the information is bleak in nature, the author also expresses an attitude of hope, and stresses again and again that recovery is possible.

All of that being said, while I give the author his props, another narrator would have worked better for me.
