Don’t bother
Revisado: 04-20-25
While the performance was pretty good, this is not a good adaptation or even sequel of a classic fairytale. I couldn’t even bring myself to finish it.

Historia
Already infamous for the arbitrary, paranoid persecution of its own citizens throughout much of the 20th century, the Soviet Union - as is revealed in John Koeher’s revelatory, eye-opening exposé - also waged a vicious espionage campaign against the Catholic Church and its followers. From the persecution of local priests to an assassination order against Pope John Paul II, the KGB viewed Catholicism as a threat to stability in Eastern Europe and treated the church as an enemy of the State. Lifetime journalist and former U.S. Army Intelligence Officer John Koehler has written the definitive book on this startling history.

Historia
In 1973, Norma Cobb, her husband Lester, and their five children pulled up stakes in the lower 48 and headed north to Alaska to follow a pioneer dream of claiming land under the Homestead Act. The only land available lay north of Fairbanks near the Arctic Circle where grizzlies outnumbered humans 20 to one. In addition to fierce winters and predatory animals, the Alaskan frontier drew the more unsavory elements of society's fringes. From the beginning, the Cobbs found themselves pitted in a life or death feud with unscrupulous neighbors who would rob from new settlers.

I really love this book. It feels like it stems from the same spirit as Knut Hamsun’s “Growth of the Soil.” Only this story is true, not fiction.

Historia
Not long after Martin Luther's defiance of the Church in 1517, dialogue between Protestants and Catholics broke down, brother turned against brother, and devastating religious wars erupted across Europe. Desperate to restore the peace and recover the unity of Faith, Catholic theologians clarified and reaffirmed Catholic doctrines, but turned as well to another form of evangelization: the arts.

This is a good book. But it’s a little difficult to follow in audio format because of all the names involved. Probably best just to read a physical copy.

Historia
In the 1960's, a French nurse, Marie Carré, attended an auto-crash victim who was brought into her hospital in a city she purposely does not name. The man lingered there near death for a few hours and then died. He had no identification on him, but he had a briefcase in which there was a set of quasi-autobiographical notes. She kept these notes and read them, and because of their extraordinary content, decided to publish them.

Very heartbreaking story
Revisado: 02-25-21
I’ve read a few of Evans’ books and series, but none of them were like this. That ending was almost to tragic, it was very difficult to listen to. I almost burst into tears and I felt all the emotions that the main character felt.
I guess if there is one thing I learned from this, it’s always be prepared for a worst case scenario. Because when things go south, you need to act quickly and with precision.

Historia
Seventeen-year-old Lorelei Patio is the adopted daughter of 200-year-old vampire Sergio Patio. She never realized why her family has had to move so often or why she is not permitted to get too friendly with other young people. In fact, except for one shocking moment that seemed more like a dream, Lorelei never fully realized who and what her father was nor what her sisters were brought up to do for him. But one day, that all changed.

Interesting
Revisado: 01-22-21
The story was structured very well. And there was more than enough here to keep me interested. However I’m kind of on the fence about that ending. That whole reveal about how the family structure of vampires works and how typical social norms don’t apply to them didn’t really sit well with me, but I don’t think it was supposed to because even the main character was disturbed. All in all this is one of Andrew’s better books and I hope the sequel is good too.

Historia
War Is a Racket is Marine General Smedley Butler's classic treatise on why wars are conducted, who profits from them, and who pays the price. Few people are as qualified as General Butler to advance the argument encapsulated in his book's sensational title. When War Is a Racket was first published in 1935, Butler was the most decorated American soldier of his time. Despite his success and his heroic status, Butler came away from his military experiences with a deeply troubled view of both the purpose and the results of warfare.

General Butler is a true American patriot. By making the American people aware of the military industrial complex, he did a great service to the country. Unfortunately, it seems we haven’t take his advice. Highly recommend this book.
