Encountering Jesus in the Real World of the Gospels draws listeners into a deeper understanding of ancient Israel and first-century Judaism to better understand Jesus' ministry. Instead of viewing the Gospels through 21st-century eyes, author Cyndi Parker introduces listeners to the larger context with the weight of the Old Testament behind them.

Mind blown!!
Revisado: 09-13-23
It was an amazing book that opened my eyes to so much! I started with another complimentary Audible title, Women of the Word by Wilkins, and she suggests a study method that includes studying with perspective of the listeners of the time and this was the perfect start to that. If anything it really encourages me to keep looking for that perspective that is not intuitive to me but pertinent to the message as it was meant when originally given. I’m going to buy the physical book just so I can loan it to people.

manipulation, coercion and pedophilia
Revisado: 01-03-20
There is so much wrong with this book! Manipulation, coercion and pedophilia... and that's from the "good guys." A centuries old guy tells a 16 year old naive girl, who is starved for positive attention, that as long as it feels right it's ok to do. That's just the tip of the iceberg. I enjoy a good polyandry story, but this book literally turns my stomach.

I know this is one of those classics that people love. Well, I don't. I didn't like Catcher in the Rye either. The performance was fine, but I just couldn't get into the story.

It took me a while to accept the voice...
Revisado: 03-24-16
This review is coming long after purchase and first time listening because I really couldn't accept the reader as the voice of Mercy. However, with time she's really grown on me. I must say that she does great voices and accents so everyone sound unique - and as the series goes that A LOT of characters. At this point I've listened to all 9 audiobooks that are currently out and have really enjoyed them

Doesn't quite live up to the first two...
Revisado: 03-24-16
The first two created an interesting world with interesting creatures and a potential romantic interest; however, sending her to school brought an almost adult book into a much more teen realm. I feel like this story could have been a novella and much more compelling. I'll still get the next one to see if the spark and potential fire returns, but I'm a bit skeptical.

Here is the novel that will be forever considered a triumph of the imagination. Set on the desert planet Arrakis, Dune is the story of the boy Paul Atreides, who would become the mysterious man known as Maud'dib. He would avenge the traitorous plot against his noble family and would bring to fruition humankind's most ancient and unattainable dream.

Great story
Revisado: 01-29-15
It's my favorite book ever and the main narrator is good, but at times they use voice actors for different parts. I think I could deal with this except where one scene goes back and forth between one and any voices - it's just a little disconcerting.

Historia
Paul Bäumer is just 19 years old when he and his classmates enlist. They are Germany’s Iron Youth who enter the war with high ideals and leave it disillusioned or dead. As Paul struggles with the realities of the man he has become, and the world to which he must return, he is led like a ghost of his former self into the war’s final hours. All Quiet is one of the greatest war novels of all time, an eloquent expression of the futility, hopelessness and irreparable losses of war.

Wonderfully Written Bk on Horrific Subject Matter
Revisado: 01-04-15
What made the experience of listening to All Quiet on the Western Front the most enjoyable?
It was very compelling. WWI from a German soldier's perspective - unique and graphic.
What did you like best about this story?
It felt real, like I was there with the characters. I know it's in the fiction section, but I'm pretty sure it's accurate as to the experiences of the front.
Have you listened to any of Frank Muller’s other performances before? How does this one compare?
No - but this one was awesome. I could hear the different characters easily, and the emotions were really conveyed well.
If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?
See the war from the battered, scarred boots of those who walked the front lines.
Any additional comments?
There is a reason this book is on many of the "To Read Before You Die" lists! I cried twice while listening to this book because it evoked such raw emotions in me. I will honestly never look at war quite the same way.

A Great Story with an Equally Great Preformance
Revisado: 01-04-15
Would you consider the audio edition of Archangel's Kiss to be better than the print version?
It's hard to compare to print, but I have tried to listen to some of my other favorite preternatural romance/dark urban fantasy and they almost always leave me unsatisfied. This one was AWESOME! I re-listened to every book in the series that I had read. I started looking for things to do (like washing the dishes, mowing the lawn, folding laundry, etc) just so I could keep listening to a story I already knew.
What did you like best about this story?
The characters are very vibrant and the plot is well balanced between the happening in the world and the happenings in the heroine's heart/life.
Which scene was your favorite?
It's hard to beat the finale, but the final scene in her apartment was pretty compelling. Don't want to ruin anything - if you've read it you definitely know what I'm talking about.
Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
I start yelling at characters (when driving) and pacing incessantly or jumping around the room (at home). I'm pretty sure some of my neighbors think I'm a lunatic after suddenly walking away from my lawn-mower to pace and rant - only about 30 seconds so no men in white coats were involved.
Any additional comments?
One of my favorite series - worth it whether read or heard!
