Poet story of blending time inside of the lore of Texas
Revisado: 06-28-20
I loved reading this book; I actually read it twice just to take in each wonderful detail. It is so poetic and I love the blending of time, the Texas lore. It gave me a new understanding of Texas tradition. I especially loved the male narrator who brought the lore forth in such an interesting way; his voice often made it seem that he had lived it.
The characters were all interesting and I loved making the rounds with each one. I applaud the environmental theme that is present throughout.

Historia
Born in the United States, but reared in Mexico, Harrison Shepherd finds precarious shelter but no sense of home on his thrilling odyssey. Life is whatever he learns from housekeepers and, one fateful day, by mixing plaster for famed muralist Diego Rivera. When he goes to work for Rivera, his wife, exotic artist Kahlo, and exiled leader Lev Trotsky, Shepherd inadvertently casts his lot with art and revolution.

Now one of my all-time favorite books!
Revisado: 04-15-20
This is such a wonderfully crafted, brilliant, thought-provoking book! I loved each and every twist and turn. I loved what she wrote about the Mexican culture, about Diego and Rivera. I came to a new understanding about the politics surrounding Trotsky. I have no doubt that this will be one of the books I will pick up again and read from the first page to the last; it has become a new dear friend that I will want to hang out with some more. I recommend this book to anyone who loves being wrapped in the great story!
