Holy hell! Amazing on so many levels.
Revisado: 03-19-24
The writing is excellent. I felt like I was back in Gideon the Ninth in the first chapter. Then. Most EXCELLENT sci fi. The history, morality, and politics in the book make it singular. Lastly. The narrator is my all time fav.
10/10.

Historia
In many ways, Nona is like other people. She lives with her family, has a job at her local school, and loves walks on the beach and meeting new dogs. But Nona's not like other people. Six months ago she woke up in a stranger's body, and she's afraid she might have to give it back. The whole city is falling to pieces. A monstrous blue sphere hangs on the horizon, ready to tear the planet apart. Blood of Eden forces have surrounded the last Cohort facility and wait for the Emperor Undying to come calling. Their leaders want Nona to be the weapon that will save them from the Nine Houses.

One of the most extraordinary books I’be ever read
Revisado: 12-20-22
This book blew my mind.
The original Gideon got me hooked on the brilliant Tamsyn Muir. Her writing made me feel awe for her intelligence and wit. Nona is amazing, disorienting, and will ask of you to keep up. Someone once wrote a book about how characters like Falstaff and Hamlet changed our perceptions of what people could be. This “people” inhabiting this stellar trilogy have done the same. Muir operates on another level. Hold onto your butt. Nona forever!

Historia
Long neglected in world history, the Ottoman Empire was a hub of intellectual fervor, geopolitical power, and enlightened pluralistic rule. Yet, despite its towering influence and centrality to the rise of our modern world, the Ottoman Empire's history has for centuries been distorted, misrepresented, and even suppressed in the West. Now Alan Mikhail presents a vitally needed recasting of Ottoman history, retelling the story of the Ottoman conquest of the world through the dramatic biography of Sultan Selim I (1470-1520).

Historia
Everyone thinks they know the story of King Arthur and his knights of the Round Table. The fact is they don't know sh*t. Arthur? An over-promoted gangster. Merlin? An eldritch parasite. Excalibur? A shady deal with a watery arms dealer. Britain? A clogged sewer that Rome abandoned just as soon as it could.

You think you know the legend. This is wonderful. Fantastical. The reading is brilliant of course, but this feels so much more like the real course. Hang in through the first few chapters. You think it’s Guy Ritchie. I assure you, it’s not.

Historia
The prize-winning and best-selling author of Say Nothing presents a grand, devastating portrait of three generations of the Sackler family, famed for their philanthropy, whose fortune was built by Valium and whose reputation was destroyed by OxyContin. Empire of Pain is a masterpiece of narrative reporting and writing, exhaustively documented and ferociously compelling.

While I knew about the Sacklers and about the Oxy epidemic, I didn’t know much about the history of the family in Valium and medical advertising. This book is a page turner.

Texas, 1921. A time of abundance. The Great War is over, the bounty of the land is plentiful, and America is on the brink of a new and optimistic era. But for Elsa Wolcott, deemed too old to marry in a time when marriage is a woman’s only option, the future seems bleak. Until the night she meets Rafe Martinelli. By 1934, the world has changed; millions are out of work and drought has devastated the Great Plains. Elsa must make an agonizing choice: fight for the land she loves or leave it behind and go west, to California, in search of a better life for her family.
