Darkness reaches forth its taloned hands, and the shadows dance and caper in anticipation of the long night to come. A night that, should it have its way, will destroy the light and those who serve it and will leave nothing but the cold, empty darkness in which the nightlings roam and feast.

A bit anticlimactic, but I enjoyed it none the less. The characters thoughts took up more room than the plot did, but they did all show some believable growth.

Awesome
Revisado: 10-03-22
A bunch of the characters got an extra dimension in this book and the plot was enjoyable. I was losing interest in the series after books 2-3, but the writing has been improving remarkably.

The prose is awesome and the plot moves quickly but those two together make this a very dense read. There are many different characters with their own stories lines and a few flashbacks spread out. While this does come together nicely later in the book, it's hard to keep track of who is who. One extra sentence in each chapter to remind me which character goes with that name would make it a lot easier to read.
All that said, I love the diction, this is a very interesting world, and I am excited for the sequel. If you are willing to listen closely or rewind every now and then, I definitely recommend this book.

Really impressive
Revisado: 07-18-20
The beginning of the book is a bit too contemplative without enough progression but when the worst I can say about a book is that I wanted more depth from Renarin and Jasnah, 2 of about 15 main characters, it shows how far you have to stretch to find anything wrong with it.
Nearly all of the characters have believable growth, flaws, personality, struggles, and the few that don't get the same screen time as others are compeling enough you want another book. The imagery and character depth are amazing. The magic system and foreshadowing provide really fun payoff for the storyline. The amount of work put into this world is impressive and I'm really appreciative I got enjoy this story.
On the Audible side, the clean structure and accompanying material are the best I've seen. I wish more of their content were like this.
