Not overly impressed to be perfectly honest. Both storyline and narration are just OK and neither left me wanting to continue the series. The minor language and excessive drinking didn't do anything for me either. I did finish listening to the audiobook but that's about all I can say. I hate saying anything negative about any book that I read or listen to but this one was so predictable and the listening experience was just meh, so...

If love an old fashioned adventure story that is clean but still has all of the necessary ingredients for one, well, have I got the audiobook for you! When I started Gladioli In August I was pretty much expecting the same romantic suspense fare as the rest of the Flowers Can Be Fatal series. Boy, was I wrong... This eighth book in the series turned out to be an adventure tale with the requisite romance thread. I loved the way Clare Revell surprised me but changing things up so dramatically, and even though there were a few things that were implausible at best, I still enjoyed the whole production.

One of my favorite parts of the story was the running gag about Jael's name and a certain bag of tent pegs. I loved that added touch of humor and it really made me laugh out loud. Clare Revell did a good job balancing out those amusing moments with the sweet romance and riveting danger elements.

Once again the narrator was the same as the previous audiobooks in the series and I have to say that I really appreciate the continuity. The audio quality isn't the best and you have to turn the volume up but it's well worth it.

If you've read or listened to the rest of the Flowers Can Be Fatal series, or even if you are new as each story can be read fairly well standalone, you'll want to make sure you don't miss Gladioli In August...

It's been a little bit since I last read a novel set during WWII so I thought it was time to head back to the era my grandma was born in. In addition, When Valleys Bloom Again is the first time I've actually listened to an audiobook with a WWII setting.

Pat Jeanne Davis' book had more of a sweet historical romance feel to it for much of the story...and then...boy, did it get going! Between the hero literally fighting for his life in Normandy, in Italy, and beyond, and the heroine trying to dodge a gentleman bent on ruining her life, it kinda got a little exciting there. Oh, and did I mention The Blitz?

As I mentioned I did listen to this novel as an audiobook. The production was seemed OK for the most part though there were a couple of minor things. First, I loved how many voices the narrator did, and she had a lot of accents to handle with these characters. There was absolutely no echo or background noise but there were times I had a little trouble understanding the narrator. Also, I had to turn the volume up a bit on my phone as the recording seemed to have been done on a lower volume setting.

When Valleys Bloom Again is a tale of love and loss and hanging onto faith when things seem darkest and it made for some decent listening. So, if you are looking for a somewhat lighter and sweeter historical romance with a few surprises up its sleeve, and you just want to chill for awhile and listen to an audiobook, this novel from Pat Jeanne Davis might be one to check into...

Things just went south for the Christmas carol singing group called the Four Santas, but, don't worry Rachel is on the case! The big question is whether Rachel and police chief Gilroy will make it through this case alive and find a killer in time!

Death Of A Santa was another fun journey to Juniper Grove. My favorite characters were present and accounted for in all of their quirkiness and charm. And once again Karin Kaufman treats readers to a cozy mystery that is both fun and keeps you guessing. The list of possible suspects, all with a different motive for murder, is a little surprising and you will be quite entertained while trying to figure out whodunit.

As I did with the previous three books I listened to this one as an audiobook. The production was topnotch as expected. The narrator is one of my all-time favorites for audiobooks. So, if you want to get into the holiday spirit with a little murder and mayhem definitely check out Death Of A Santa, the 4th book in Karin Kaufman's charming Juniper Grove Mystery series.

As I've been working my way through the Flowers Can Be Fatal series I've pretty much quit reading the blurbs and started enjoying the element of surprise with an entirely unknown storyline. I've loved lighthouses since I was a kid, have even visited a few, so I was most happily surprised when I started Water Lily In July and found that it was set mostly on a lighthouse!

Out of the six audiobooks that I've listened to in this series I think that this is definitely my favorite one. I absolutely loved how Clare Revell changed tack with this one having more adventure elements instead of suspense. What more could you ask for than a heroine with a unique job, a handsome hero, the storm of the century, and a lighthouse that holds some mysterious secrets?

As with the previous audiobooks in the series I've really appreciated the continuity of the same narrator, it's made the stories flow more easily within my imagination. Though, once again the audio recording quality leaves something to be desired. However, a good narrator and a great story definitely outweigh any problems. So, whether you are lighthouse lover or a British fiction enthusiast Clare Revell has you covered with Water Lily In July, the 7th book in her Flowers Can Be Fatal series...

It's been a while since I've listened to a Lacy Williams audiobook and it's been a really long time since it was A Wyoming Legacy Novel that I listened to. I have no good answer as to why because I wondered that very thing myself as I listened to Return Of The Cowboy Doctor.

Return Of The Cowboy Doctor was a fun and easy historical romance listen/read. The characters were interesting and likable and you can't help but root for Hattie and Maxwell to find love and a way to attend medical school.

In today's year of Covid-19 it was a little eerie listening to an audiobook where the characters face an outbreak of cholera and have to set up quarantine and treatment areas.

As I mentioned, I did listen to the third book in the A Wyoming Legacy series as an audiobook. I thought the narrator was good and she did a nice job bringing Lacy Williams's story to life. No complaints about the sound or production quality. Just a good story and a good audiobook.

Well, I did not see that coming. A Glazed Finish was one of those rare times when I was totally surprised by whodunit. Eryn Scott had her characters, and most definitely me, coming and going in such a way that I didn't see what was right in front of my nose. I couldn't have been more wrong in who I suspected. But, oh, that was such a great part of the fun of listening to sixth A Stoneybrook Mystery audiobook!

I've really been enjoying the A Stoneybrook Mystery series as I am a big fan of clean reads, especially of the cozy mystery variety. It's been so much fun solving mysteries with Hadley and clan. Watching their relationships change and grow, and in the last few books getting to know Hadley's spunky grandmother. So, if who like to figure out whodunit, love cats, and have a sweet tooth for jams and jellies you've got to check out A Glazed Finish, and the rest of the series, from Eryn Scott.

Once again, listening to this audiobook was a real treat! Absolutely no complaints at all! I love the narrator for the role and was glad to hear that she was back for this audiobook. Great listening!

Progressive Dinner Deadly is a cute cozy mystery featuring one of the spunkiest octogenarians! Myrtle Clover is blunt, she's funny, she can't cook, and she can solve a mystery faster than anyone in town, including her police chief son who lives across the street.

While I did find it to be a slow starter the last third really picked up. I was pretty much glued to my phone for the last couple of hours as Myrtle put the odd assortment of clues and neighborhood gossip together to solve whodunit. This was a fun introduction to the series for me, it's actually the second Myrtle Clover Mystery, and I expect that I'll be listening to more cozies from Elizabeth Spann Craig.

As far as audiobooks go it was a decent production. The narrator was quite good, so glad they didn't pick some who sounded like a teenager, and the sound quality was excellent. So, if you love cozy mysteries and heroines who are over 60 you might enjoy this audiobook and the series.

Are roses a sign of love or intimidation...?

Revisado: 10-31-20

I've been listening my way through Clare Revell's romantic suspense Flowers Can Be Fatal series for awhile now and I think Roses In June was the one I was most curious about. Would it be a wedding story? Or? Since I've been going through the series anyway I haven't been reading the cover blurbs so I had no real inkling what it would be about. First off, no it's not a wedding story in any way. The heroine is a teacher dedicated to her students and the hero has probably the oddest occupation combo that I've ever read, he's an actor and, get this, an earl!

Roses In June was more of a romance that some of the previous Flowers Can Be Fatal books. However, just when I got settled into the romance groove the story took an abrupt turn and here came a stalker! While I felt that the stalker's motive was a bit iffy I loved how frightening Clare Revell made it for her heroine as she has no idea if her possible new love interest is Mr. Right or an obsessive and dangerous man. You're just going to have to find out by reading/listening to this fun British fiction title.

A relatively short listen at just under 4 hours the production was the same as its series predecessors. Meaning, the narrator is wonderful and has the perfect accent for the characters, but, the sound recording is not that great. My advice is to do what I do, turn up the volume and simply enjoy the story.

Well, I was actually surprised by this series. Eagle Eyes was so much better than the previous Julie C. Gilbert series that I listened to. Maybe the suspense was better or maybe it was just the high tech that, though disturbingly invasive, reminded me of a modern day version of the old 1980s Knight Rider, but I truly enjoyed this one! I was also a big fan of the fact that the suspense and technology are front and center, no romance.

Violence In Vegas:
This was a really great start to the three book series. I found the scenes in the tunnels under Las Vegas to be particularly interesting. This story also brings awareness to a serious but little written about problem, human trafficking right here in the USA.

Rescue In Reno:
Megan's friends just can't seem to catch a good break in this second book in the series! This book also shows even more of the crazy and invasive stuff that Eagle Eyes can do, including turning up the heat in a room and keeping the user asleep while it updates.

Danger In Dallas:
What could go wrong when you have an assassin as a friend? Well, if you are Megan Luchek, pretty much everything. This final book in the series ramps up the danger even as it answers many questions about Eagle Eyes and the Shadow Council, and some of the answers are rather surprising.

Audiobook:
I listened to the 3-in-1 audiobook so I really got to enjoy these stories back-to-back without waiting for a new release. The narrator is a new one to me but she did a great job capturing my attention and immersing me in the story. The sound quality was good and nothing marred the listening experience. If you enjoy clean read suspense with lots of fancy technology I would definitely recommend the Eagle Eyes series from Julie C. Gilbert.
