Historia
In 1942, the Gestapo sent out an urgent transmission: "She is the most dangerous of all Allied spies. We must find and destroy her." The target in their sights was Virginia Hall, a Baltimore socialite who talked her way into Special Operations Executive, the spy organization dubbed Winston Churchill's "Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare." She became the first Allied woman deployed behind enemy lines and - despite her prosthetic leg - helped to light the flame of the French Resistance, revolutionizing secret warfare as we know it.

The narrator does a poor job. I quit the book midway through. I just couldn’t finish.

Phenomenal
Revisado: 10-10-23
What a compelling and beautiful story that illuminates the atrocities of war and the evils of humanity, while celebrating the compassion, bravery, and tenacity that such situations bring forward. A wonderful celebration of the contributions and integral role women and nurses played during WWII.
This story brings forward a much glanced over time in history, a little known or discussed part of WWII and the too often overlooked role women played. Bravo to the author and to the narration that brought this tale to life!

Historia
Now reduced to a schoolyard chant, the Hope family murders shocked the Maine coast one bloody night in 1929. While most people assume seventeen-year-old Lenora was responsible, the police were never able to prove it. Other than her denial after the killings, she has never spoken publicly about that night, nor has she set foot outside Hope’s End, the cliffside mansion where the massacre occurred.

Perfect Combo!
Revisado: 06-01-23
Once again, Early is the perfect voice to another killer Slaughter story! Not once, have either words nor the voice disappointed!!
It is brilliant how Slaughter carefully unwraps two stories, from multiple POVs, throughout the narrative, and oddly enough ends up tying everything into a beautiful, tight bow!
This book, as with all of Slaughter’s works will not disappoint!! Always a nail biter, while squeezing tears and prompting surprise barks of laughter!! Love!

Ignore the negative reviews due to chats!
Revisado: 01-20-23
This is an amazing book!! I was worried because I read reviews regarding the social media interactions mentioned by many reviews, but they quickly become just another part of the story, just a new form of dialogue! You quickly become familiar with who they all are, just as one does with interactive dialogue in the traditional sense!
The plot is fantastic, suspense brimming over through every one of the 32 plus hour story!! I couldn’t stop listening, and was saddened that it ended!!
I love all of these characters! Galbraith/Rowling has created very human, flawed, but infinitely endearing players that always have me laughing, crying or groaning! I especially love how Robin is a soft, sweet, somewhat innocent woman, who is still her own hero, not completely reliant on a masculine white knight riding in to save her!
I also find it very necessary to remark on how amazing, I feel, her characterization of Strike is!! Every time I listen to one of these stories, it causes me to truly think and empathize with the true, everlasting difficulties that amputees experience and struggle with. She truly enlightens readers to the difficulties they continually endure and overcome in the mundane circumstances able bodied people constantly take for granted!
These truly are fantastic stories that I sincerely hope will continue, because I now need a new story fix!! Get this book!!

Historia
Photographer Isla Wilson is thrilled she's landed her dream job, but the clients who hired her are getting stranger by the day. It sounded so perfect—a month's assignment at the lush Scottish Highlands property of architect Alban McGregor, and his wife, Jessica. But in the woods, there's a playhouse with a chilling history. Two years ago, the McGregors' daughter Elodie was abducted and then died in that playhouse. The townspeople insist her abductor had to be a stranger in their town. Alban refuses to knock the playhouse down, even keeping a picture of it on his wall.

I would have paid a credit after hearing it, it was that good!!
Revisado: 12-20-22
Free stories are always a roll of the dice, I’ve gotten some decent ones, some I was mightily glad we’re free, and then, this one!! A plot done so well that I was completely blindsided by the reveal, a reveal that continued to unravel for nearly the last third of the book and kept me guessing the whole time, and such excellent narration that I sincerely felt I was being told this story personally, complete with movie flashbacks! In total honesty, I actually wanted to pay the credit at the end!!!
You have nothing to lose and an amazing experience to gain by picking this AMAZINGLY FREE story!! You get no deets from me, because any clue would lessen the experience!
I always want to stand up and cheer and shake an author’s hand when I hear or read a story, especially a mystery that is actually a fresh, new, and unique idea!! Kudos, standing O, confetti, and maybe a ticker tape parade for Taylor, and the same for Gordon-Anderson for so exquisitely bringing this phenomenal narrative to life!!
