Historia
War and Peace is at once an epic war chronicle and an exploration of everything that make us all human: love and hate, ambition and despair, life and death. Allow yourself to get lost in the lives of three Russian aristocratic families, whose triumphs and challenges are every bit as resonant to today’s listener as they were to original readers. Thandiwe Newton inhabits each character with such flair that it is easy to forget that you are listening to one voice.

fantastic characters, philosophical profundity
Revisado: 02-02-25
Well, I didn't read it, but I listened to it from start to finish. It's always been something I've wanted to read and I'm really glad to have gotten through it. It is a very good book with rich and complex characters. Tolstoy does a marvelous job of writing human interaction that still feels relevant 150+ years later. His philosophical dissertations on war, life, and free will are also quite interesting. it's a 60+ hour book on audible; if you're looking for a classic set in 1803-1821 Russia, this ultra marathon of a book is the one

The story is seen through the eyes of Uhtred, a dispossessed nobleman, who is captured as a child by the Danes and then raised by them so that, by the time the Northmen begin their assault on Wessex, Alfred's kingdom and the last territory in English hands, Uhtred almost thinks of himself as a Dane.

extremely vivid!
Revisado: 09-24-24
An incredibly detailed story of an abducted noble born boy's journey into manhood, set in late 9th century England. Rhe author does fantastic work in painting the setting, and the narrator is equally skilled. I thoroughly enjoyed the book.

A boring story
Revisado: 07-19-24
this was the most boring book I've listened to. I really hate to say that about Salvatore and son, but I really struggled to get through the second half of this book. The first half was not any better, I was just hopeful it was going to pick up. it did not. It MIGHT have been the narrator, whose performance was uninspired and often awkward, but I'd like to think the story is paramount and would supercede poor performance. in any case, I hate to say that I'm highly disappointed in this book.

Michael Pollan, known for his best-selling nonfiction audio, including The Omnivores Dilemma and How to Change Your Mind, conceived and wrote Caffeine: How Caffeine Created the Modern World as an Audible Original. In this controversial and exciting listen, Pollan explores caffeine’s power as the most-used drug in the world - and the only one we give to children (in soda pop) as a treat.

Super interesting read/listen
Revisado: 05-25-20
the author covers the story of caffeine very well and makes some pretty interesting points about its existence and the motivations of the plants that make it. the performance leaves a *bit* to be desired; however, I feel that may be just typical of a nonfiction book. it was not dull by any stretch.

Salvatore's storytelling is phenomenal; his settings are immersive. The heroes are all that should be an the villains are truly bone chilling.
