Historia
Reiko, empress of Japan, has allied herself with Princess Órlaith, heir to the High Kingdom of Montival, to find the Kusanagi-no-Tsurugi, the Grass-Cutting Sword, a legendary treasure of an ancient dynasty that confers valor and victory to its bearer. Órlaith understands all too well the power it signifies. Her own inherited blade, the Sword of the Lady, was both a burden and a danger to her father, Rudi Mackenzie, as it failed to save the king from being assassinated.

Why do we have to be racist?
Revisado: 05-21-21
i love these books. love the story, characters, writing, all of it. what consistently galls me is Todd McLaren’s racism. the book states that both egawa and reiko have faint accents by the midst of these books, and yet todd chooses to paint every japanese character (even when speaking TO OTHER JAPANESE FOLKS, IN Japanese) with the most patently racist “engrish” dialect that i’ve seen since mickey rooney in breakfast at tiffany’s. it’s so disappointing to listen to a man ruin a great series like this. i wish they could be re-recorded.

Can we find a way to convey Japanese that isn’t racist?
Revisado: 04-28-21
i love these books. love the series, i can always come back to it. my problem with these books is always todd mclaren. he can’t pronounce gaelic, didn’t research the names and turns or phrase in the books, and his character voices for asian women in particular are laughably bad. i wish we could have a better performance of this terrific series.
