Speak up

Narrator often whispers and I can’t hear what she is saying.

I enjoy the Thursday murder club books, however this is the swing one I’ve listen to and am frustrated that the narrator either whispers or mumbles. Her accents aren’t good and I can’t hear a difference in her voice from

Author portrayed the conflict in the Arab world fairly accurate. In the last chapter, however, the comment that the Israeli PM is the most formal is inaccurate! Israelis are informal.

Interesting story - quality vs quantity

Like most Audible narrators, I was disappointed that the narrator didn’t have very different voice. It was hard to figure out who was speaking. Characters with accents sounded pretty good. Why didn’t any character in the book discuss that one could live a long but with dementia, in a coma, etc?

I enjoyed the plot and characters. The performances, I didn’t. One male and one female and narrator were good. However, having two narrators read a chapter made it frustrating as the voices of the characters everychapters

The variety of voices

The musical interruptions was very annoying. Music between chapters and a flyer episode is not needed a short musical sound before a new podcast would have made this a super audio book.

Interesting, but lacks professional writing

The story is one of a family with many guns, a father who thinks he has taught his sons gun safety, but realizes too late that he hasn’t clean his conceal and carry gun, which is loaded! That leads to a revealing insight. Parts of the story are unclear. For example, when the dad is talking g about going to gun shops and asking if they are aware of problems with the Remington guns, he learned that they have been, but none of the dealers will testify or otherwise go public with this life saving information. However, he doesn’t state why he is going to the stores, the reader isn’t told. That is just poorly written. For me, the insightful part of that is that funds and gun manufacturers do kill. And people are afraid of the gun lobbies. While Zack didn’t kill his brother intentionally, he did put a bullet in the gun and threatened him. Why did the dad have all his guns in a safe and be the only one with the code. Dad and Remington, in my opinion, are guilty of the murder.

I enjoyed the use of the narrator as also the author of the book. A clever way to narrate the story. Of course, a great twist at the end that I did not anticipate.

Fascinating Novel

I enjoyed the plot and characters. The narrator had a nice voice and was good at voicing the main character. However, she didn’t know how to pronounce the name Dov and mispronounced it the two two times she used it. Her Israeli accent and all other accents were dismal. All the characters sounded the same and it was very hard to know who she was voicing.

While the story moves quickly and the historical background is interesting, there are no surprises. It’s a basic theme we’ve read before. When the narrator take on male characters, they sound like women and I got confused. Her voice was lovely for the other roles.

Once again, Penny has help me captive with her plot twist and great characters. The narrator is good, but I could differentiate some of the characters from his reading.
