Historia
The number one New York Times best-selling story about American Olympic triumph in Nazi Germany, the inspiration for the PBS documentary The Boys of '36, broadcast to coincide with the 2016 Summer Olympics and the 80th anniversary of the boys' gold medal race. Out of the depths of the Depression comes an irresistible story about beating the odds and finding hope in the most desperate of times - the improbable, intimate account of how nine working-class boys from the American West showed the world at the 1936 Olympics in Berlin what true grit really meant.

This is a spectacular story of the University of Washington men’s rowing team set in the midst of the Great Depression in the United States and the rise Hitler in Germany. Amazing story. Great narration. This should be a highly recommended book for high school students. One of the best books, I’ve listened to in the past several years.

Disappointing. No Soup for Me!
Revisado: 12-17-23
I READ the first 2-3 “Chicken Soup” books many years ago and enjoyed them. LISTENING to the audiobook of this release was intolerable for me. I made it through 5 hours but couldn’t finish. Narration was too cheesy, dramatic and childish for me. Many of the stories are dated and just couldn’t happen today with the change in culture and new technology which is unfortunate. Maybe I already sailed this ship and just couldn’t get back on board.

Superficial & Narcissistic
Revisado: 12-08-23
I’m not Mormon, and know very little about the religion. Before listening to this book, I had no idea who Heather Gay was/is. I was hopeful that I would be educated & entertained. Initially, I was educated, but that quickly dissipated, and I was never entertained. The most used words are “I, me, myself, and mine.” The author is full of herself, craves attention, and is materialistic. Drops names, labels, places, etc. The story is a continuous two-stroke cycle of whining and bragging. The most memorable aspect of this book is how bad it is. Waste of my time and $. I feel bad I supported her income by purchasing the audiobook.

Historia
In You Can’t Joke About That, Kat Timpf shows why much of the way we talk about sensitive subjects is wrong. We’ve created all the wrong rules. We push ourselves into unnecessary conflicts when we should feel like we’re all in this together. When someone says “you can’t joke about that,” what they really mean is “this is a subject that makes people sad or angry.”

Good, Not Great
Revisado: 06-07-23
The reason I listened to this book is because I enjoy watching Kat on the Gutfeld show. I’m glad I listened but I expected more from this book. I expected more humor. Though titled “You Can’t Joke About That”, Kat can sure whine, complain and bi### about many things. Justly, but a bit excessively and obsessively. She makes her values and perspective clearly known early in the book, and then repeats them chapter after chapter in different contexts. But I liked that she provided specific examples to illustrate her point. A good read in support of free speech and “moving on” rather getting triggered.

Listen as Frank tells in his own inimitable voice his story of how at the age of 19 he traveled from Limerick to New York in pursuit of the American dream. Despite the abundance of unsolicited advice he gets to "join the cops" and "stick to his own kind", Frank knows that he should educate himself and somehow rise above his circumstances.

Simple and Fascinating
Revisado: 05-20-23
I enjoy Franks‘ storytelling, accent, and perspective on simple and natural events in his life. The idealist in me wanted everything to be fine and turn out well, but that’s not true life. I listened to “Angela’s Ashes “ and “Tis“ back to back, and am glad I did. The two books inspired me to do my own research on his family. I think it’s fascinating how the “mundane” or “simple life “ of a man from poverty can be cause for reflection and inspiration.

Thought-provoking
Revisado: 03-25-23
This is my first book from this author. I didn’t know what to expect, and was pleasantly surprised. The message is poignant and thought-provoking, and the narration is done well. I don’t rate the story as excellent because it was predictable at times and a tad cheesy at the end. But glad I listened to this.

Not Enjoyable
Revisado: 03-18-23
The audible is just under 10 hours. I lasted through 6.5 hours and couldn’t push through to the end. It never got better. Should have been named obnoxious and smart a## people. The author thought every sentence had to be witty, sarcastic or off-base. Story wandered. Too many characters and the narrator did a poor job creating voices for each - and seemed to get them mixed at times. Though the story was clever in places and certain lines made me chuckle, it wasn’t enough to keep my interest to the end. A forgettable book for me.

A challenge to get through
Revisado: 10-10-22
I never knew or heard of Simu Liu before this book. I bought this audiobook because I enjoy autobiographies, the title was intriguing, and the story line was interesting. By Chapter 5, I couldn’t wait for the book to be done. I finish all books I start but this one was tough. I tried to keep an open mind, listen to what the author was saying and find a valuable “take away“. The book has value in the experiences and insight shared by the author. But I found him to be too egotistical and egocentric. He is not as funny or loving as he thinks himself to be. The author is a year younger than my daughter and 2 years older than my son, yet so different in mindset, values, maturity - for the worse. Well listening to the book, I took breaks to look up and watch some of his acting appearances. It didn’t help me enjoy the book or appreciate the author. Congratulations to Simu on his success but the book did not make me a fan of his.

Very Good, but …
Revisado: 07-14-22
I enjoyed the book. I have a lot of admiration and respect for Kristi Noem. She is one of our principled leaders. I enjoyed hearing her insight and mindset when addressing personal and political challenges. Because I grew up in the same area of the country, I can understand and relate to her experiences. But I thought a few portions of the book were “cheesy“ and did not contribute to the overall story. And while I realize Governor Noem has a busy and demanding schedule, the book would be so much better if she had narrated it.

Amazed he is still alive
Revisado: 06-03-22
Definitely a book you have to listen to rather than read. The author speaks fluent Japanese and English, and masters all the difficult things. Learning about Japanese culture, values, ethics and It’s underground life was fascinating and educational. But it’s amazing to me that this author is still alive considering what he did, who he knew and who he investigated for so many years.
