Historia
A natural born trapper and hunter raised in the Alaskan wilderness, Tracy Petrikoff spends her days tracking animals and running with her dogs in the remote forests surrounding her family's home. Though she feels safe in this untamed land, Tracy still follows her late mother's rules: Never Lose Sight of the House. Never Come Home with Dirty Hands. And, above all else, Never Make a Person Bleed. But these precautions aren't enough to protect Tracy when a stranger attacks her in the woods and knocks her unconscious.

Liked the description of Alaska and dogs. Thought it had unbelievable characters. Did not get into the story line at all. Save your money.

Historia
After Tova Sullivan’s husband died, she began working the night shift at the Sowell Bay Aquarium, mopping floors and tidying up. Keeping busy has always helped her cope, which she’s been doing since her eighteen-year-old son, Erik, mysteriously vanished on a boat in Puget Sound over thirty years ago. Tova becomes acquainted with curmudgeonly Marcellus, a giant Pacific octopus living at the aquarium. Marcellus knows more than anyone can imagine but wouldn’t dream of lifting one of his eight arms for his human captors—until he forms a remarkable friendship with Tova.

Excellent book. Church group is discussing this book during Lent services. Well written. Loved the compassion of the characters in a small town and how they cared for each other.

Historia
Texas, 1921. A time of abundance. The Great War is over, the bounty of the land is plentiful, and America is on the brink of a new and optimistic era. But for Elsa Wolcott, deemed too old to marry in a time when marriage is a woman’s only option, the future seems bleak. Until the night she meets Rafe Martinelli. By 1934, the world has changed; millions are out of work and drought has devastated the Great Plains. Elsa must make an agonizing choice: fight for the land she loves or leave it behind and go west, to California, in search of a better life for her family.

Read the Grapes of Wrath instead
Revisado: 01-25-25
Interminably long book. I feel I wasted my time. I remember reading the Grapes of Wrath in college and it scared me so much that I reconsidered dropping out of college and finished my degree. I feel this author was copying Steinbeck in so many ways and failing miserably at it. I wish I had my credit back from Audible. Not worth your time-we are still struggling over workers' rights in America and with the deportations it can only get worse. My own Grandfather was a farmer during the depression in Appalachian and I remember the stories he told me about hardships. Only read this book if you want to be depressed for 15 hours and 20 min.

Historia
The morning of January 12, 1888, was unusually mild, following a punishing cold spell. It was warm enough for the homesteaders of the Dakota Territory to venture out again and for their children to return to school without their heavy coats - leaving them unprepared when disaster struck. At the hour when most prairie schools were letting out for the day, a terrifying, fast-moving blizzard blew in without warning. Schoolteachers as young as 16 were suddenly faced with life-and-death decisions.

Very sad
Revisado: 02-18-22
Now I understand the hardships of the immigrants, including 3 rd generation, in my father-in-laws case, of the difficulties in settling the Midwest. I do think the author went on and on too long with the story which was a very sad one about the children lost in the blizzard.

Historia
When a mysterious book is unearthed from the foundation of Jake's 1823 fixer-upper, she immediately sends it off to local book historian Horace Robotham. After all, there must be a logical explanation for why the long-buried volume has her name in it - written in what looks suspiciously like blood. But all logic goes out the window when the book disappears - and Horace turns up dead.

Revisado: 01-23-22
Excellent rendition. Tim Curry is just wonderful! I have always loved this story. Everyone needs to take Charles Dickens story to heart and reach out to each other. Just as true, if not more, today as it was then.

Historia
I’ve been in this life for fifty years, been trying to work out its riddle for forty-two, and been keeping diaries of clues to that riddle for the last thirty-five. Notes about successes and failures, joys and sorrows, things that made me marvel, and things that made me laugh out loud. How to be fair. How to have less stress. How to have fun. How to hurt people less. How to get hurt less. How to be a good man. How to have meaning in life. How to be more me. Recently, I worked up the courage to sit down with those diaries.

Told with great Texas style. I really enjoyed it. Laughed and most of all identified with a lot of what you had to say. I really liked you in We are Marshall and Dallas Buyers Club was fantastic. Glad you held out for that part looking forward to more of the same.

very sad book
Revisado: 07-30-21
no matter how you approach this it is still child rape. The aunt is made out to be the bad guy when she does everything in her power to protect Wavy. Why social services never intervened earlier is beyond me. The teachers in school turned a deaf ear to what was going on. The lady in the jewelry shop also. I hope everyone who reads this will remember that this is not a romantic story but child rape. It is sad and not wonderful.

Historia
In 1914, the war which was to have been wrapped up by Christmas had - in reality - only just begun, as all sides entrenched themselves deeper into the Great War. Christmas Eve, 1914 follows one company of British officers as they rotate forward to spend their Christmas on the front lines, a mere 80 yards from the German guns. Upper- and working-class men and boys are thrown together into one trench and struggle to survive.

Let there be peace on earth.
Revisado: 07-21-21
This book details the horrors of war and the men sent to fight. My own grandfather was in this awful war as a medic. Through overwhelming bravery the men put aside their hatred for one night of truce. Christmas Eve. Hopefully thus war ended soon thereafter.
