I've been waiting for YEARS for this to be written, and it was totally worth the wait. This one is just as enigmatic as the original.

One thing that made me nervous at the beginning was the change in narrators, after all, John Lee is a legend. However, Chris harper did an amazing job. This one will (for me) get some re-listens.

Let me start by saying, I loved Ready Player One. Armada was OK, but a little heavy on the "Last Starfighter with daddy issues vibe", So please don't get me wrong. I wanted to like this book, but it's just bad. Really...REALLY bad. Firstly, it's boring, terribly boring. If I wanted to listen to someone pretend that they were cool because they could recite 80's trivia, I MIGHT be able to say it was OK. However, the completely uninteresting and unoriginal plot prevents approval even in that case. Honestly, I kept listening just to hear the train wreck. On the upside, it did bore me to sleep a few times, so if you're stressed and can't sleep, try listening to this instead of morphine.

The only saving grace for this audiobook is Wil Wheaton. He, as always, does an extremely good job narrating. In this case, he has been able to take a steaming cesspool of sub-par pop-culture dreck and deliver it in a way that made it listenable, even if it is awful.

Would you listen to Going Clear again? Why?

I *will* absolutely listen to this book again. As a kid, I was a big fan of LRH's sci-fi writings, and was peripherally exposed to the Church of Scientology and their 'religious tech'. When I was a teenager, I met some former Scientologists who were more than happy to tell me about the way things really worked in the church. I always thought they were either exaggerating or outright lying to me. As it turns out, they weren't even scratching the surface of the madness.

What was the most compelling aspect of this narrative?

What made this story so fascinating is that there are literally dozens of times throughout the book that I found myself knowing that the things being said were absolutely true and documented, while at the same time thinking the stories are so fantastic and bizarre that there was no way they could possibly have happened. The cognitive dissonance is both pleasing and troubling. Unfortunately for the Church of Scientology, their very litigious nature, while protecting their inner secrets for years, also left trail of court documents miles long.

Which scene was your favorite?

I can't really call it my "favorite" scene, but I think the most revealing scene is the period of time that the budding Church of Scientology spent at sea. The misadventures of the group, along with Hubbard's decent into psychosis is fascinating. It was the culmination of his lies and the perfect opportunity for him to allow his delusions of grandeur and persecution complex to run wild and destroy people's lives. Although this is tied with the tragic death of one of his children.

What’s the most interesting tidbit you’ve picked up from this book?

The most interesting aspect for me was L. Ron Hubbard's involvement with Jack Parsons and the "Babalon Working".

I had forgotten how compelling the story of Ender Wiggin was. I read the book many moons ago, and loved it. When I saw the Unabriged version of this book, I decided to give it a go.

I was extremely pleased with the quality of this audiobook. The reders were top notch, and really managed to convey the emotion and pace of the novel. I highly enjoyed the entire production, and would recommend this to anyone that is a hard Sci-Fi fan, a fan of the print book, or someone who is just curious to see what all the fuss surrounding this acclaimed novel is about.

To fans of the book, the most rewarding part of this audio version is the 5 minute discussion at the end of the presentation by the author where he discusses his original intent behind the novel, and its' sequels.

Altogether, this is one of the best audiobook presentations I have been lucky enough to come across.
