All of it was so great!
Revisado: 09-04-24
I read this in some of the reviews too, but it’s the sort of story that makes you wish there was more of it! It ends very well, but you still wish it didn’t end. Narrator was excellent too, which made it much easier to enjoy and get lost in the story.

Historia
In the year 2045, reality is an ugly place. The only time Wade Watts really feels alive is when he’s jacked into the OASIS, a vast virtual world where most of humanity spends their days. When the eccentric creator of the OASIS dies, he leaves behind a series of fiendish puzzles, based on his obsession with the pop culture of decades past. Whoever is first to solve them will inherit his vast fortune—and control of the OASIS itself.

Couldn’t even get into it, and audible return policy…
Revisado: 01-29-24
I love the 80’s. I love sci-fi, tech stuff, all that Jazz. What I don’t like is being preached about religion, philosophy and CLIMATE CHANGE (Oh, the horror!!). I understand if the author is a cranky, disgruntled human creature who knows he got the short end of the stick by being thrust into this terrible, unfair, meaningless world.
If he wrote this book and said he (the character) learned the truth about evolution being a lie, and how God created everything, etc. it would be almost as unbearable. You have a point of view, a perspective, an opinion? Great! Touch on it and get on with the story!
This is one book I couldn’t get rid of quickly enough, and I can’t even get the damned ghastly thing off my phone. I’m sure the author feels about life and the human experience, something like I feel about being stuck with this book.
Audible’s return policy is garbage as far as I’m concerned. I can return a title purchased with a credit, but not one I bought outside the credit system? Hmm that’s some bs.
I’m sure someone will love this book; I couldn’t get past the first 30 minutes of his meandering, bitter, depressing tirade about how awful life and the world is (except for when it was AWESOME in the 80s)!

Historia
One afternoon at an outdoor market in India, a man’s shadow disappears - an occurrence science cannot explain. He is only the first. The phenomenon spreads like a plague, and while those afflicted gain a strange new power, it comes at a horrible price: the loss of all their memories. Ory and his wife, Max, have escaped the Forgetting so far by hiding in an abandoned hotel deep in the woods. Their new life feels almost normal, until one day, Max’s shadow disappears, too.

Profoundly depressing
Revisado: 09-28-23
I know, I know, I’m missing something; perhaps I’m not cultured or modern enough, who knows.
This story has so much potential to be great. It drags quite a bit in many areas. If you’re into the sort of story that strings you along with hope, drags you right up to the bitter end of anticipation and then trips you just at the end so you fall flat on your face with a “WTF!”, then this book is for you.
Looking for a happy ending? Brace for disappointment. You get a crappy ending with a dash of attempted redemption, topped with a heartache cherry on top.
The male narrator is pretty alright.
The female narrator verbally acts out Max’s part when she would do much better to just read it. *cringe*. But just wait until she tries doing male voices… Ugh, cringe, ack!
Ok, all I’m saying is this book isn’t for me. Maybe you’ll love it!

Are you ready for the end? An ancient tomb is unearthed live on cable TV after months of hype. It's billed as the archeological equivalent of Shark Week. The actual footage takes a turn no one ever expected. Those minutes of footage will be combed over by governments worldwide seeking to understand what horror came out of that tomb.

Revisado: 12-10-22
I started writing a review for this book about half way through. I don’t write reviews usually; It was that bad. I’m still not sure what happened after that halfway point, but the author, narrator, story and characters finally came into sharper focus. I wouldn’t call this a great one, but I’m definitely going to be getting book two to see what happens next.

This was a little painful to get through
Revisado: 05-06-22
This book was agonizing for the first three quarters plus. The first two books were pretty good. And this last book was spared utter ruin and loathing by the last hour ands half.
Part of me doesn’t want to be too harsh, but there was a lot of over written inner monologue and description where I wished there was more action. Corrin (I don’t know how his name is spelled) had a lot of potential, which in a pretty significant way was never achieved (unless there is eventually a forth book).
Overall, I’m glad that the book didn’t end as badly as I feared it would. I also think the author could use a new editor. That’s all I’ll say for now.

Historia
All of us long to know what life after death will be like. Best-selling author John Burke is no exception. In Imagine Heaven, Burke compares over 100 gripping stories of near-death experiences (NDEs) to what Scripture says about our biggest questions of heaven: Will I be myself? Will I see friends and loved ones? What will heaven look like? What is God like? What will we do forever? What about children and pets?

Really enjoyed the book, not the narrator…
Revisado: 03-18-22
This book was very interesting and good. My only gripe is minimal, but the narrator was more distracting than anything with his various attempts at voices other than his own (especially female). If he had used his own voice all the way through I would have enjoyed the listening experience much more.

Historia
We were fighting on the wrong side of a war we couldn't win. And that was the good news. The Ruhar hit us on Columbus Day. There we were, innocently drifting along the cosmos on our little blue marble, like the native Americans in 1492. Over the horizon come ships of a technologically advanced, aggressive culture, and BAM! There go the good old days, when humans only got killed by each other. So, Columbus Day. It fits. When the morning sky twinkled again, this time with Kristang starships jumping in to hammer the Ruhar, we thought we were saved.

Great space story!
Revisado: 12-22-21
The story is great the narrator is excellent even if he doesn’t nail all of the accents perfectly. There’s a lot of great humor in the book, bringing levity and a serious story line together seamlessly.
I think the funniest part of book one has to be “Madam President”. I laughed and laughed! Looking forward to listening to part two!

Historia
The Sea of the Unknown lays before us, cold and callous. Behind us stand the comforts of home, the assurance of a path well-trodden. But some of us feel called to something else - something unseen, undefinable. Those hopes and nebulous dreams rest out over the horizon, beyond the chop and spray of the slate-gray sea that crashes at our feet. We know not how to reach those dreams; we know only that we must try.

Epic Voyage
Revisado: 02-27-21
I have just finished listening to Jay Swanson‘s audiobook, Sea of the Unknown. I can’t say enough about it, I will definitely be listening to it again though to catch whatever I may have missed the first time through!
His skill as a writer and storyteller shines through brilliantly in this audiobook (Check out his other work on audible too!). His whit, humor, humility, and just general down to earth goodness come through so clearly as well.
I have been following his life (at least what he shares on his YouTube channel) for about five years. The experiences and resulting transformation have been profound, and a real joy to see!
The voyage is epic, told in his own words and in his own voice - which, incidentally, is very easy to listen to - to say nothing of the devilishly handsome man behind the recording equipment.
Like so many others, I look forward to the continuing journey as we set sail again and again on the Sea of the Unknown.
Good work Jay,
Thanks so much!
