Historia
The number one New York Times best-selling story about American Olympic triumph in Nazi Germany, the inspiration for the PBS documentary The Boys of '36, broadcast to coincide with the 2016 Summer Olympics and the 80th anniversary of the boys' gold medal race. Out of the depths of the Depression comes an irresistible story about beating the odds and finding hope in the most desperate of times - the improbable, intimate account of how nine working-class boys from the American West showed the world at the 1936 Olympics in Berlin what true grit really meant.

Historia
When they met at an airport, it was love at first sight. But in time, everything collapsed. As an unnamed but unforgettable woman muses on her life—from meet cute to marriage and parenthood—her recollections inexorably build to a devastating truth. In this shattering performance, Carey Mulligan, star of the critically lauded drama An Education, captivates audiences with playwright Dennis Kelly’s harrowing ruminations on family, ambition, gender, and violence.

Dennis Kelly and Carey Mulligan deliver
Revisado: 09-17-18
I was in NYC when Girls & Boys debuted. After reading a ('go see it') review of the play, I decided to hold off attending: it sounded like a difficult play to leave - it would leave its mark on me. And I wasn't ready. I almost resisted listening altogether...
What I loved
- It's less than 2 hours. Every moment you are captivated, working to put the pieces together.
- Mr. Kelly's writing -- I need to listen again -- the language and images he uses... This isn't fair (to either writer), but his approach to writing (not the plot) reminds me of a grown-up version of Diablo Cody's Juno screenplay. The language pops, it creates images in your head you've never had before. It is fresh and honest.
- The monologue structure, where she - and you - are alone with the story - is a bit haunting, but she helps you through it.
- Ms. Mulligan... there are parts of a script where... her interpretation: she brings to life moments that you feel each emotional change. The moment where she is asking for help from someone to locate...
After listening, I enjoyed reflecting on the production (and the writer walks you through a bit of it afterwards), and I personally treasured being able to see the places where the writing began and ended, and where Ms. Mulligan's acting brought the spoken and barely spoken to life.
If there were a specific phrase I could remember from the play and performance, I'd cleverly use that here. Instead, I'll say Mr. Kelly and Ms. Mulligan pair nicely together, and you'll have to listen for yourself. (I listened over two days of commuting.)
Note: This isn't a romance, or a drama. It's a gut wrenching play that is absolutely worth listening to. But... if there are topics that you have a sense are not for you, do what you can to have a friend check it out for you in advance.

Historia
On May 1, 1915, with WWI entering its tenth month, a luxury ocean liner as richly appointed as an English country house sailed out of New York, bound for Liverpool, carrying a record number of children and infants. The passengers were surprisingly at ease, even though Germany had declared the seas around Britain to be a war zone. For months, German U-boats had brought terror to the North Atlantic.

funny, challenging

Sarah is a genuinely funny comic. I appreciated mixing social science with humor. The last episode fell a little short, but she’s tackling a difficult concept so it’s understandable. I look forward to finding other comedy of hers.
Note: it feels weird putting in reviews for performance and story when she is a comic - I think of it all as one experience.

Frank W. Abagnale was one of the most daring con men, forgers, imposters, and escape artists in history. In his brief but notorious criminal career, Abagnale donned a pilot's uniform and copiloted a Pan Am jet, masqueraded as the supervising resident of a hospital, practiced law without a license, passed himself off as a college sociology professor, and cashed over $2.5 million in forged checks, all before he was 21. His story is now a film starring Leonardo DiCaprio and Tom Hanks.
