9 hours before any action
Revisado: 03-17-22
Plodding, bloated, padded to meet the assigned page count; this is the kind of garbage you get when you farm your writing out.
It's hard to say this was a bad Star Wars book because it's really not a Star Wars book in the first place. It's like she had an outline for a natural disaster book, then was told to write a huge Star Wars book; the result is about 20 minutes of plot agonizingly stretched over 13 hours.
In this "Star Wars" "adventure" story, the first blaster doesn't even go off until about 9 hours in.
I get the impression that this author is far more comfortable with much shorter stories and more juvenile audiences.
Star Wars novels are never going to be high art, but they should at least be about, you know, Star Wars.

Solid writing
Revisado: 11-15-21
Great characters, solid story. A little odd to hear a first person narrator in the medieval genre, but it worked. Frequently jarring shifts in past and present tense tripped me up.

Historia
The battlefields of the 31st century are commanded by the BattleMech, 12-meter-tall, 100-ton bipedal engines of destruction. Fought by MechWarriors, commanded by neo-feudal officers, owned by national governments and band of mercenaries, these ’Mechs make every other ground combat vehicle obsolete. This is the warfare of fusion-powered giants. This is BattleTech.

Solid story in any universe
Revisado: 10-12-21
No knowledge of BattleTech needed. This story could be set on contemporary Earth, or a fastest world; it would still be excellent.
That said, it's easily the most I've enjoyed a BattleTech story.
warning: no mechs even appear until the end, so if you think that your getting a shootemup stompy robot tale, you're not.

God awful
Revisado: 10-05-21
This book was the literary equivalent of a bag of cheap potato chips; mostly empty air, and then what you do manage to get is bland and unsatisfying.
I'll be avoiding anything by Cavan forever.
