I read another review that dismissed this balanced and well researched account as "propaganda". I am glad I ignored it. As a Westerner who spent the last 8 years in Hong Kong I am well placed to spot check some of the material presented here. It is precisely if you want to move beyond the silly propaganda that abounds and get a proper and up to date introduction to contemporary China that you should read this.

THe book is only 4 h long but the authro nevertehless manages to keep droning on about stuff that is super straight-forward. The whole treatment of AI is very superficial. The book appears to be written for technophobes who need to be told which way up to hold their smartphones.
